PROJECT GEOLOGIST - EXPLORATION

African Barrick Gold’s Bulyanhulu Gold Mine seeks to employ an experienced Project Geologist - Exploration to systematically collate, organize and interpret all relevant geological data from all Barrick leases around the Bulyanhulu Gold Mine with the objective of defining, ranking, and testing prospective drill targets in the most safe and cost effective manner possible.

KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Provide leadership to ensure that all employees and contractors adhere to safety and environmental standards and any applicable legislative provisions
• Effectively train and develop Tanzanian Geologists with a strong emphasis on safety, high technical standards and continuous improvement
• Develop a sound understanding of the geological controls of mineralization in the Bulyanhulu area and build on this understanding to further refine target generation and improve the accuracy of resource estimates
• Continuously improve the mines Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
• Liaise with all Barrick and Bulyanhulu departments and working areas to assimilate all relevant GIS data that will allow for the efficient display of a wide range of extensive and up to date data sets
• Methodically apply geological understanding and experience to review and interpret all data sets from local Barrick leases in order to identify prospective targets, rank these and propose exploratory programs for testing them
• Design, prepare and supervise surface and underground drilling programs
• Prepare and manage exploration budgets, maintaining a high degree of cost control at all times
• Complete project work and presentations to a professional standard as and when required
• Report on exploratory activities carried out by the Minex section on a monthly, quarterly & annual basis
• Assist the Superintendent Resource Development and Geology Manager in reviewing every aspect of departmental operations to identify and implement opportunities to add value to the operation & company
• Supervision of junior staff, drilling personnel, core logging, sample preparation and assay QA/QC to ensure clean, verified data capture
• Maintain a high degree of cost control at all times

PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES

Education Requirements:
• Bachelor of Applied Science, majoring in Geology. Preferably with a post graduate qualification, eg. Honours

Experience Requirements:
• A minimum of 5 years exploratory experience
• Experienced in exploratory techniques involved in grassroots exploration through to advanced drill out
• Experienced in various drilling methods (AC, RAB, RC, DDH) & techniques, including exposure to semi directional and/or directional drilling
• A thorough knowledge of GIS with extensive knowledge of Arcview GIS software
• Intermediate Datamine skills
• Knowledge of Access/SQL databases
• Clear and concise communicator – both written & verbally
• Supervisory experience is essential
