TITLE:    Vice President, Development and Business Development
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:  President & CEO
Overview: Accordia is currently seeking an entrepreneurial and mission-driven development professional to drive resource mobilization/ development efforts for the organization. The VP, Development will be responsible for the overall planning, execution, management and measurement of all fundraising for Accordia. Successful candidates will have demonstrated experience with internationally-oriented NGOs and resource development practices and will enjoy the challenge of creating and building a solid and comprehensive multi-million dollar fundraising program.   In addition they will have a successful track record working with a big concept, growth oriented CEO and Board who are committed to expanding and maximizing the impact of the organization.  Vital to this position will be a demonstrated ability to be an effective leader and manager within the context of a fast-paced setting with rapidly changing priorities.
This position is responsible for developing and implementing a resource mobilization strategy across a variety of donor targets (including bilateral, multilateral, foundation, corporate and individual donors). In addition, s/he will serve as the principal proposal coordinator/writer/editor for Accordia.  S/he also oversees the donor grants reporting function. 
The VP, Development reports directly to the CEO and is a part the Senior Management Team, and as such, is charged with playing a role in the overall management of the organization.
Position Responsibilities:
Resource Generation and Strategy
• Working with the CEO, develop and execute a comprehensive strategy and plan (short, medium and long term, with priorities) for all resource generation efforts, including the exploration of new strategies, approaches, processes and donor targets;
• Collaborate with the CEO and the Senior Management Team to execute plan by identifying and pursuing new prospective funding from individual donors, foundations, corporations, USG and other bilateral and multilateral funding sources and deepening relationships with existing donors across all sectors;
• Develop and manage the full range of fundraising lifecycle including (intelligence gathering/research/landscape analysis/ gap and competitive analysis, mapping, relationship building, teaming agreements, proposal writing and donor reporting);
• With the CEO and Senior Management Team, set realistic revenue goals and establish appropriate metrics to track success.
Management and Leadership
• Oversee the Director of Individual Giving and Accordia’s individual giving program, including the successful execution  of an annual fundraising event with robust corporate sponsorship;
• Manage effectively and provide leadership to development staff;
• Provide leadership to the organization in selecting and implementing appropriate technological software (i.e. database systems) to support fundraising operations, donor relations, and analytical report functions;
• Develop productive working relationships with colleagues, leadership bodies, donors, and partner organizational administration;
Proposal Writing and Donor Relations
• Serve as principal proposal coordinator, writer and editor for all proposals submitted by Accordia;
• Write effective and compelling letters, proposals, and correspondence to support cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts for potential and existing donors;
• Oversee and actively participate in the donor grants reporting function;
• Respond to donor requests and inquires as required.
Communications and Outreach
• Develop presentations for the Accordia Board of Directors and external stakeholders as required;
• Represent Accordia in appropriate professional and prospective donor networking opportunities;
• In collaboration with the Communications Director and other staff identify, leverage and plan strategies to engage donors at various touch points  (e.g. conferences, panel discussions and cultivation events); 
• In collaboration with the Communications Director, develop briefing materials, talking points, and presentations as required in support of resource generation efforts;
• Build effective and sustainable public-private partnerships to advance organizational development goals;
• Partner with program staff to identify projects appropriate for development of programmatic funding, and work to coordinate in-country fundraising efforts for Accordia’s centers of excellence in the early stages of development;
• Other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills and Background:
Selected candidate will demonstrate his/her commitment to carrying out the mission and values of Accordia Global Health Foundation, as well as possess the following essential skills and background:
Experience
• An accomplished Resource Generation professional, with a minimum of 10 years of compelling and measurable record of outstanding accomplishment and professional growth in key development positions, preferably in internationally-focused and/or global health environments.
• Proven success in securing high-level gifts from individual, corporate and/or institutional major donors at the $100,000 level and above.
• Experienced and proven track record of working across most or all of the following categories: multilateral and bilateral including non US based aid agencies, foundations, corporations and individual donors. 
• Experience with strategic planning, programming, and implementation for global resource generation programs and initiatives; ability to bring programs from conceptualization to implementation and evaluation; the ability to think creatively and with long-term objectives.
• Proven success in developing relationships of mutual trust and partnership with internal and external partners and stakeholders; experience in building coalitions.
Essential Skills and Knowledge
• A seasoned proposal writer who has led all aspects of proposal development and submissions. 
• An ability to understand and communicate (especially in the proposal writing context) scientific information to a range of audiences.
• Someone versed in international health and development issues, particularly infectious diseases, and with experience in writing proposals with an academic focus.
• An attitude and experience aligning fundraising efforts with programmatic objectives and outcomes.
• Knowledge of public/ donor assistance and grant making procedures (tracking, partnering, reporting to competitive solicitations, writing, reporting, contractual).
• Knowledge of/experience with policy/advocacy and communications, and how to successfully incorporate them into resource generation efforts.

• Strong supervisory skills and demonstrated experience managing and coaching individuals and teams for achieving results.
• Ability to work individually and across the organization; excellent teamwork skills. 
• Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to effectively manage across a global platform of partners.
• A self-starter, entrepreneur, with good judgment, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt quickly to changing needs and priorities; proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously with little direction.
• Sensitivity toward cultural diversity and an ability to work across various regions of the world. • A passion for improving health outcomes in the developing world.
Other Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts or business is required, with an advanced degree in business, communications or an academic field, and/or professional certification a plus, but not a prerequisite.
• Excellent writing and oral communication skills are required, including an ability to prepare and make effective one-on-one, group presentations and members of the Accordia Board.
• Proficiency with widely used business management software programs (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint), as well as fundraising software systems (e.g. Millennium, Raiser’s Edge, Telosa) is advantageous.
• Experience living and/or working in a developing country is a strong advantage.
• Must be willing to travel both domestically and internationally.

Compensation Package: Accordia Global Health Foundation will compensate the successful candidate at a level that is consistent with the area’s leading non-profit organizations and will commensurate with the candidate’s experience and skills.
