Senior Food Security/ Baseline Survey Expert

VGM Partners is looking for an expert for the following EC Framework project in Mozambique:

PROJECT NAME: Food Security Baseline Survey

Global objective: A comprehensive review at national and provincial level of the Food Security and Nutrition situation in Mozambique is undertaken, to support decision making at political level using updated data, with focus on the following issues:

•             Assessment of the reasons for chronic Food and Nutrition Insecurity,

•             Evaluation of the structural indicators of Food Security,

•             Evaluation of the Indicators of the Food and Nutrition Insecurity and their relation with gender and environmental issues,

•             Review of the criteria distinguishing chronic from transitory Food and Nutrition Insecurity,

•             Review of the classification of the most common forms of livelihood in the country and assessment of their vulnerability to Food and Nutrition Insecurity,

•             Evaluation of the situation regarding specific issues and areas related to the three pillars of the MDG initiative Programme (I. Enhance agricultural and fishery production, II. Increase access to Food; III. Improve Nutrition).

POSITION:   Senior Food Security/ Baseline Survey Expert

·         University degree or equivalent with specialisation in Nutrition or Statistics; 

·         At least 10 years of experience in food security projects including a minimum of 5 years experience in monitoring and evaluation and 3 years experience in national food security and nutrition surveys, partly in Sub-Sahara Africa;

·         Experience in reviewing of all documentation of the Baseline Study – questionnaires, manuals, indicators lists, protocols of implementation (concepts);

·         Experience in implementation of all phases of the analytical process of the data which finally results in good quality data aggregates meeting the global objectives of the Baseline Study as well as the specific indicators of the MDG initiative Programme;

·         Previous experience in selection of interviewers, their training as well as proper logistic preparation and implementation of the field work;

·         Language skills : Good knowledge of Portuguese and English.
