POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW

(Development of Aquaculture Value Chains)
Cairo, Egypt

As part of the CGIAR Research Program on Livestock and Fish, Worldfish is working with partners in Egypt to help develop aquaculture value chains that provide more fish by and for the poor. The Swiss-funded IEIDEAS Project (Improving Employment and Income through Development of Egypt’s Aquaculture Sector), which is operated in partnership with CARE, the Egyptian Government and the private sector, contributes to these aims by focussing on increasing employment, improving aquaculture productivity and securing economic access by poor consumers to fish.
The IEIDEAS project is looking for a dynamic, energetic post doctoral research fellow, with a track record in carrying out and publishing field research, for the following post:

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with the program and project implementation teams to ensure that the work programs are run as action research, investigating how interventions trigger change in poverty and food and nutrition security
  • Help plan and draft research outputs (research reports and publications) and prepare research proposals to be submitted to donors.
  • Foster practices and a culture of knowledge sharing and learning among value chain staff and partners
  • Help to implement value chain-level M&E and information management systems
  • Provide input in support of the country and global L&F Communications Strategy

Skill Requirements
  • English language proficiency and excellent research paper writing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills
  • Ability to work well as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experienced working with participatory approaches
  • Experienced in doing action research and/or practical experience in knowledge management
  • Familiarity with a wide variety of communication vehicles

Essential Qualifications and Experience
  • A PhD Degree in related field (aquaculture, agriculture, ecology, natural resource management, etc)
  • Strong scientific publication track record
  • Minimum 1 year’s work experience in participatory research or development initiatives

Duration
  • This is an 18 months post-doctoral position, renewable depending on performance and organization’s needs
