Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Operator

The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) is searching for Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Operators for our field roster, who are willing to be deployed at short notice to various parts in the world.
The MSB is a Swedish governmental agency with the task to enhance and support societal capacities for preparedness and prevention of emergencies and crises, national as well as international. When one does occur, we support the stakeholders involved by taking the right measures to control the situation.
As an EOD qualified operator, you must have the training and knowledge to conduct render safe procedures and final disposal of any type of explosive ordnance on which you have been trained on. You are expected to act responsibly during implementation of all EOD activities and related tasks in accordance with MSB’s SOP under the supervision of the EOD Team leader. You are able to substitute for the EOD Team leader in case of medical emergency.
Duties
Carry out MRE sessions, Non-Technical- and Technical Survey, clearance of landmines and Explosive Remnants of War (ERW)
Assist the MSB EOD Technical Advisor/Team Leader in training, capacity building and supervision of trainee personnel up to EOD IMAS level 3 standard.
Participate in the development and implementation of Standard of Operations's (SOP), Render safe procedures and thematic MA handbooks
Be able to conduct regular assessments, monitoring and quality controls in accordance with set standards
Responsible for keeping assigned means of communication, maintained and monitored them during operational activities
Assist MSB assets in liaison and coordination with own and other mine clearance assets to ensure appropriate, safe and efficient mine action activities
Contribute to ensure and appreciate that capacity building and sharing of knowledge remains a high priority in work
Duties include accurate and complete reporting and ensuring that internal control systems are functioning correctly
Experience
1-3 years of relevant experience in demining and handling of unexploded ammunition.
International experience of field work in complex emergencies or natural disasters is highly desirable.
Experiences of team leading positions are considered advantageous.

Education
IMAS Level
 3 EOD qualified with documented experience in mine and ERW clearance.
IMAS Level 4 EOD specialist qualification shall clearly indicate the specialist training received by the individual.
Further adequate education in handling unexploded ammunition and demining is advantageous.
Languages
Fluency in written and spoken English is essential; fluency in one or more official UN languages is desirable (French, Spanish, Arabic, Russian or Chinese).
Other requirements
Possess high technical knowledge of Explosive Ordnance and different disposal techniques.
Fully conversant with the use of radio or other means of communication (i.e. radio, mobile phone etc).
Fully conversant with map reading and the use of compass, GPS, and other essential equipment knowledge, and advocate the Land Release concept.
Recognisable international driving license.
Good knowledge in computer handling and data acquisition.
You must be physically capable and medically fit to work and travel and are required to undergo a pre-employment medical examination by a licensed physician before contracted.

It is essential to have a capacity to work under pressure, often in difficult and demanding conditions, where focus frequently shifts due to changes in priority. You are expected to have excellent analytical and communicative skills, show initiative and take both a hands-on and an analytical approach to tasks and problems.
Contractual conditions
Working with the MSB on an international operation means that you are temporarily employed by the MSB. MSB pays salary, insurances, travel costs and subsistence allowance during the operation. In addition, participants in introduction courses and relevant specialist training courses receive remuneration from the MSB.
