Production Research Intern, Tanzania


Reports to: Senior Producer
Contract duration: 12 months (with possible extension)
Salary: Competitive within Tanzanian NGO market rates
Job purpose
The Production Research Intern will be responsible for researching, writing topic briefs and media monitoring of national and international news content for Haba na Haba, BBC Media Action’s flagship radio programme
Main Duties
• Gathers and verifies factual information for Haba na Haba weekly topics through interview, observation, and research.
• Organises material, determines slant or emphasis, according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.
• Work cooperatively with Haba na Haba production team on assigned research for stories, if one is assigned.
• Assist producers in preparing Haba na Haba.
• Assist the Haba na Haba staff in preparing content for the show’s multi media platforms.
• Monitor media for any references of Haba na Haba, or BBC Swahili Service, and the programme’s topics from multiple platforms on deadline, such as newspapers, online and social media networks.
Skills, knowledge and experience requirements
• Computer literacy required, including extensive familiarity with Microsoft Office.
• Understanding and/or familiarity of Haba na Haba prtogram and other radio formats within Tanzania
• Strong broadcast and BBC style writing skills.
• Familiarity of and practice with online and social media tools and ways of leveraging such tools for media monitoring purposes.
• Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment.
