Background
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) invites applications for the position of Project assistant (Data, logistics, secretariat), This position is funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) under the Multinational-CGIAR Project on Support to Agricultural Research for development of Strategic Crops in Africa (SARD-SC),
IITA is an international non-profit research-for-development (R4D) organization created in 1967, governed by a Board of Trustees, and supported primarily by the Consultative Group of International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). Position/Responsibilities
The Project Assistant will work as a member of the SARD-SC project team in Tanzania. Under the general supervision of the Project Coordinator, the nationally recruited staff (NRS) will:
Manage the database for the project
Provide research related project management secretarial services
Provide communication support between the project and all its partners
Keep records of deadlines for submission of workplans, and technical and financial reports to ensure these are prepared and submitted in a timely manner.
Establish research and project management data records for the project.
In coordination with the Project Coordinator assist in organizing meetings, and work groups
Prepare and store meeting minutes, documents and reports as appropriate.
Contribute to collation of project reports in coordination with the Project Coordinator and project supervisor. .
Develop and maintain an 'up-to-date inventory of equipment and materials belonging to the project and ensure proper maintenance.
Contribute to publications and presentation of research outputs.
Carryout any other responsibility as may be assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Statistics, Project Management or related field of study from a reputable university/college,
Other requirements:
Minimum experience of 3 years in a similar position Excellent computer skills - Microsoft Office packages.
Be proficient in the use of database management software, statistical analysis software, GIS tools, internet-based tools and other electronic communication tools.
Basic knowledge of agriculture in Tanzania
Good organization and planning skills with effective time management skills.
Ability to perform multiple tasks and work under pressure
Knowledge of work processes in international organizations
Excellent report writing and communication skills Ability to work in a multi-cultural setting

General information:
Initial appointment is for two years. Subsequent renewal of the contract will be decided-based on research outputs and productivity, and continued need for the position. IITA offers a competitive remuneration package.
