Land O'Lakes is interested in expanding its pool of agricultural Chief's of Party with experience working in South, East, and West Africa for up and coming bids as well as active projects in the field. The Chief of Party is responsible for the 1) successful implementation of the project and achievement of results, on time and within budget; 2) effective management of the project workload including all financial, planning, administrative compliance and reporting, and monitoring and evaluation; 3) supervision, mentoring and development of local staff and consultants or managers capable of continuing Land O’Lakes work over the long-term; and 4) representation to USAID, USDA, host government, community groups and funding organizations.
The Chief of Party is responsible for managing project according to timeline, scope and budget as outlined in Agreement with the funding organization. Typically oversees a staff of 10 – 30 host country national employees, with varying number of direct reports. Chiefs of Party report to Regional Program Directors.
Required § Bachelors Degree in Business Management Agricultural Economics, Agriculture, International Development or a related field; § Minimum of 5 (five) years of management and technical experience in an equivalent position, preferably in a developing country; § Demonstrated experience and success in leading, supervising, coaching and developing others; § Demonstrated experience and success in fostering and leveraging strategic partnerships; § Experience living and working in developing countries; § Ability to coordinate, collaborate, and negotiate with host government officials, NGOs, sub-grantees in implementing project activities; § Excellent communication skills with the ability to dialogue, network, and negotiate with funding organizations, community groups, private sector organizations and local governments; § Must be fluent in English (written and oral) and able to effectively present information and communicate before public groups, partners and donor(s); § Proven financial management and budgeting skills; § Proven personnel management skills; § Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills and with financial reports.
Preferred qualifications:
§ Master’s degree in Business Management Agricultural Economics, Agriculture, International Development; § Chief of Party experience; § Experience in implementing and managing donor-funded development programs; § Experience with a range of donors’ rules, regulations, and procedures; § Prior experience in fundraising and developing proposals; § Previous experience working in the private sector; § Regional, country and local language capabilities.
