Overall Responsibilities:
JSI is hiring an Immunization Technical Officer who will provide. assistance in the design, implementation, evaluation and documentation of interventions to ensure sustainable routine immunization coverage and the successful introduction of pneumococcal and rotavirus vaccines by 2013. The Immunization Technical Officer will report to the MCHIP Regional Immunization Advisor and work with MOHSW and IVD staff and with colleagues from other partner organizations at national level and in select regions/districts on key policies and program strategies.
Specific Duties:
Specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Serve as a technical advisor to the Tanzania Immunization Interagency Coordinating Committee, the Technical Sub-Committee, as well as with the MNCH Technical Working Group; Contribute to strategic planning, implementation and monitoring of immunization technical activities of the MOHSW, IVD, the Immunization Technical Committee and partners to improve the national, regional and district routine immunization programs, and prepare for the introduction of new vaccines;
Support the immunization capacity building activities to improve IVD staff and health worker performance for RI and new vaccine introduction;
Work with IVD and the Immunization Technical Committee on outlining and implementing the introduction plan and timeframe for PCV13 and rotavirus vaccines introduction including routine immunization system preparedness (e.g. with cold chain planning, training and linkages with HSSplatform);
Assist IVD and partners with the adaptation of the Mid-level Manager training materials and immunization in-practice training modules and outlining of national and regional immunization health management team technical and capacity building needs (including for new vaccine introduction preparations);
In consultation with the IVD and partners, facilitate reaching every district. (RED)/ Reaching Every Child (REG) training and micro planning in the priority regions/districts;
Identify and provide short term immunization technical input (e.g. capacity building and training activities, supportive supervision, assistance with immunization review meetings, RED guidance) to Regional Health Management Teams and District Health Management Teams, focusing on staff responsible for the immunization program;
Compile and analyze data for performance monitoring and evaluation of the project and work with partners at all levels to .analyze and utilize data to take corrective actions;
Collaborate with the MCHIP Regional Technical Officer, the MCHIP Tanzania team and MCHIPIHQ in the preparation and implementation of work plans and budgets for supporting USAID, and submit technical reports to the project and its donors;
Maintain close contact with the MCHIP Tanzania team and MCHIP headquarters
Other duties as assigned by the MCHIP Regional Immunization Advisor and Senior Technical Officer atMCHIP/HQ
Qualifications And Personal Attributes Required:
Citizen of Tanzania
MPH or medical/nursing clinical degree and more than five years of experience in the field of public health, with specialization in immunization and maternal/child health.
At least five years of work experience in a management position with EPI.
Experience with managing immunization programs and child health programs, including provincial and/or district-based work
Knowledge of the Tanzanian Ministry of Health structure at all levels will be an added advantage for this position
Experience in working in a multi-agency/organizational environment
