JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Program Officer will support all aspects of the YouthMap program in Tanzania. The Program Officer will also provide support to other YouthMap and IYF programs and training activities in the region on an as-needed basis.

- Coordinate YouthMap assessment work, logistics and follow-up activities in Tanzania by:
- Conducting research, facilitating training, and participating in field work.
- Contributing to development of assessment reports .
- Supporting planning and logistics for the YouthMap Assessment dissemination event and other outreach and communications activities related to sharing the assessment results.
- Support the design and implementation of YouthMap Innovation Fund programs in target countries, including:
- Reviewing concept papers or proposals and identifying local implementing partner(s).
- Monitoring program activities and helping to supervise the work of the implementing partner(s) by making monitoring visits, writing field visit reports and reporting back to IYF Baltimore in a timely manner program progress, issues/constraints that may impede progress, and recommended actions, troubleshooting or capacity building needs.
- Provide technical assistance to implementing partner(s) in the following areas: training, partnership building, leverage tracking, monitoring and evaluation, and use of technology.
- Assist in the formation and management of a local advisory board, including scheduling of meetings/events, preparation of meeting materials and meeting reports and tracking any agreed action steps.
- Support the team in identifying, cultivating and managing relationships with relevant government offices, civil society and companies–and raising leverage for the innovation fund programs.
- Provide general support to the YouthMap program and perform other tasks as assigned, including coordinating program activities, writing/editing program reports, and traveling within Tanzania and to other countries in Sub-Saharan Africa to monitor and support IYF activities.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in a field relevant to IYF’s mission and programs (Business Administration, Social Science), plus 5+ years of work experience.
- Work experience in Tanzania required. Knowledge of or experience with youth assessments and partnership-based programs that support youth employment or education/training preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English required. Knowledge of Kiswahili desirable.
- Ability to identify and establish priorities, work independently, and exercise sound judgment related to providing support and assistance.
- Experience and proven results working with and creating partnerships among the private sector, government and USAID-funded programs in Tanzania required. Familiarity with technology and business creation/entrepreneurship related to youth programming in Sub-Saharan Africa strongly preferred.
- Ability to identify problems in a timely manner, make recommendations toward solving problems, and work well in group problem solving situations.
- Ability to work in a dynamic team, as well as an ability to carry out tasks independently. Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees at IYF’s offices in Baltimore and in the IYF Tanzania field office.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills are required. Knowledge and experience in building office systems, filing systems, and general office procedures preferred.
- Possess outstanding interpersonal communication skills which must be effective and courteous, requiring high integrity when dealing with a broad array of cultures and languages.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Ability and willingness to travel within Tanzania and within the Sub-Saharan Africa region.
