Reports to:Chief Operating Officer - UTT Microfinance
Purpose of the Job
The holder of this 'position oversees all accounting matters pertaining to the expenditure and revenue in the company and overall supervision of Finance and Administration Department. The outputs of this position are therefore reflected in the quality of finance and accounting records maintained by the company.
Key duties and responsibilities:
Overall supervision of Finance and Administration Department;
Maintain all accounting books pertaining to revenue and expenditure;
Ensure that procedures regarding revenue and expenditure accounting are strictly followed. Prepare periodic reports on the status of revenue trends, loan performance etc.;
Prepare Management accounts, estimates, monitor trends and appraises the Chief Operating Officer accordingly;
Supervise all financial and accounting operations and maintains the UTT-Microfinance accounting books in accordance with current accounting conventions and legal requirements;
Maintain the UTT-Microfinance budget, and takes measures to ensure that the activities conform as much as possible to the budget;
Oversee the preparation of all books of account;
Keep custody of cheques books, payment vouchers, and all other accounting documents pertaining to revenue and expenditure of the UTI-Microfinance;
Ensure that all payments are made in accordance with financial regulations and the approved budget;
Oversee the management of the petty cash account to ensure adequate float is maintained to" meet petty cash expenditure; Prepare periodic financial statements to facilitate constant review of the UTIMicrofinance financial status;
Prepare cash flow projections, bank reconciliation and posting of all accounting transactions;
Maintain an up-to-date register of fixed assets and of all other accounting documents;
Make all necessary preparations for the UTI-Microfinance accounts to be audited in accordance with legal requirements, and facilitates the 'auditors in carrying out their work;
Prepare tax computations as necessary and ensure submission to the tax authority on due date;
Perform such other related duties as would be assigned by the Chief Operating Officer from time to time.
Qualifications & Experience:
The holder of this position must have a first degree and a post graduate degree in Business Administration, Finance, Commerce, accounting or any equivalent qualifications thereof. A postgraduate degree in Public Administration or Human Resources Management will be an added advantage.
CPA, ACCA is a must;
Experience: At least 5 years of practical experience, three of which preferably, in reputable microfinanceor banking institutions.
