Oxfam GB, Kenya Programme is currently partnering with the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) to implement water, sanitation and hygiene promotion (WASH) programs for refugees in Dadaab Refugee camps.
In addition, Oxfam is planning to implement WASH programs for the host community living within 50km radius of the refugee camps.
To achieve this, Oxfam seeks to recruit the following positions.
Public Health Engineer (Water Distribution)
National Level D2
The Public Health Engineer will conduct rapid and detailed needs assessment in the refugee camp(s) and the host communities.
H/She will support pipeline survey, design technical drawing, bill of quantities for water distribution facilities and organise logistics supports to supply materials at site.
The person will ensure that minimum standards of technical quality in all engineering activities and interventions are technically appropriate, realistic and budget sound.
H/She will also prepare agreement/procedures documents for labour contract or sub-contract relevant works.
To be successful in this role you will have a degree in Water and Environmental engineering from a recognised university.
You need intense experience in humanitarian work and significant understanding of pipe water supply source development and integrated WASH and hygiene promotion programme for IDPs/ refugees in camps, urban and rural situation.
Practical experience of technical project implementation, ability to work within deadlines and independently in difficult environment is essential.
Public Health Engineer (Sanitation & Construction)
National Level D2
The Public Health Engineer will conduct rapid and detailed needs assessment in the refugee camp(s) and the host communities.
H/She will support and prepare work plan in coordination with Public health Promoter and PHE team leader.
The person will supervise construction of sanitation and waste disposal facilities as well as prepare agreement/procedures documents for labour contract or sub-contract relevant works.
To be successful in this role you will have a degree in Civil/Water engineering from a recognised university.
You will need to have intense experience in humanitarian work and significant understanding of building materials, construction and integrated watsan and hygiene promotion programme for IDPs/refugees in camps, urban and rural situation. Practical experience of technical project implementation and ability to work within deadlines and independently in difficult environment is essential.
Assistant Public Health Engineers
National Level E1
The Assistant Public Health Engineer will coordinate and supervise construction and maintenance of assigned water and sanitation infrastructure with support from the public Health Engineers.
H/She will assess the WASH needs of the host and refugee community as well as monitoring water availability, access and quality at household level. The person will also conduct water quality testing and analysis then recommend remedies.
To be successful in this role you will have a at least diploma in Civil, Water, Sanitary or Public Health Engineering from a recognised university/ college and a minimum two years experience in Water Engineering and/or construction works.
Public Health Promoter
National Level D2
The Public Health Promoter will Work with the WASH team to facilitate community participation in all WASH programmes in the camp.
S/he will also play a key role in data collection &situational analysis and provide information to different community and programme stakeholders.
S/he will carry out and participate in Public health assessments and contribute to program design, implementation and monitoring of program effectiveness in conjunction with other members of the WASH team (including public health engineers).
To be successful in this role you will have a degree in Environmental/public/community health or any other related field with at least three years practical experience in appropriate community health and environmental programmes in an emergency/ refugee programme set up.
Experience and understanding of community mobilisation in relation to water and sanitation activities in complex humanitarian situation, and understanding of chronic and fluid humanitarian issues in refugee situations is also essential.
Assistant Public Health Promoter
National Level E1
The Assistant Public Health promoter will help plan and carry out WASH needs assessments, baseline studies and periodic studies and feed back findings to stakeholders.
He/ She will collect data from Community Mobilisers and prepare regular reports on Public Health promotion activities.
The person will also coordinate with water supply and sanitation field staff to ensure that the hardware and software aspects of the WASH response are integrated and work together to achieve a common goal.
To be successful in this role you will have a degree in Environmental/public/community health or any other related field with at least one-year practical experience in appropriate community health and environmental programmes preferably in an emergency refugee programme set up.
Experience and understanding of community mobilisation in relation to water and sanitation activities in complex humanitarian situation, and understanding of chronic and fluid humanitarian issues in refugee situations is also essential
