JOB SUMMARY The Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing the Finance Department including cashiers, accountants, and the management information systems. Is responsible for the integrity of the organization’s entire financial systems, by ensuring the security of organizational assets, generating external reports and interfacing with local regulators, auditors and advisors, providing management with financial data, reports and analysis, and assisting management in decision making.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES I. Finance Management a. Ensure compliance with and the integrity of the Finance Department’s controls structure. To ensure all personnel complete tasks in a careful, professional and accurate manner. b. Responsible to supervise and check all financial transactions, the overall financial system, and the implementation of all financial policies and report to Managing Director regularly. c. Create and prepare all financial reports, included but not limited to: profit and loss statements, balance sheet, cash flow report, and others as required by the Managing Director and United States based headquarters. d. Maintain financial and operational databases; recover database records when financial data has been maliciously modified. Ensure the security of historical financial and operational data. e. Update and maintain all source documents in accordance with country laws including but not limited to invoices, receipts, bids, contracts, insurance policies, internal and external reports, budgets, and any other document used to substantiate financial transactions. f. Ensure that the organization’s financial system and policies are in conformity with national laws and regulations. g. In concert with the Finance Department based at United States headquarters create and update finance-related manuals and documents in a timely fashion. h. Receive and provide financial training on a regular basis; ensure that employees have sufficient financial knowledge. i. Ensure that paper files and computer files are properly organized such that information can be referenced quickly and efficiently. j. Conduct regular reviews of the accuracy and integrity of financial information in the accounting and Loan/savings tracking systems. II. Management and Leadership a. To set a culture within the Finance department for meeting HOPE’s standards of Christian behavior, compliance, honesty, trustworthiness and reliability. To be an example to the team of the Christian model of leadership following HOPE’s Kingdom principles. b. Recruit high quality staff that are committed to HOPE’s vision and mission. c. To establish goals, conduct quarterly reviews and annual assessments of all direct reports and to determine plans for their development. d. To determine training programs for all staff to support the achievement of their annual goals. e. Is a member of the senior management team and supports the Managing Director in discussions and programs concerned with the overall general management of the HOPE Country organization. III. Accounting a. Develop, maintain and analyze the organization’s budget, compare budget cost with actual cost to create reports on a regular basis. b. Responsible for all monthly, quarterly and annual external reporting, preparing reports for local government bodies including the annual audit, taxes, etc. c. Prepare monthly financial reports for Management’s use. d. In concert with the Finance Department based at United States headquarters work to enhance control activities and control environment through developing processes, creating accounting forms and tools, and ensuring policies are fully implemented. e. Maintain and manage the organization’s financial system. f. Ensure financial manuals and procedures are in accordance with organization’s human resource and operational manual. g. Supervise office cash management; ensure the security of all organizational funds. h. Manage financial transactions. i. Supervise branch level administrators, ensuring the accuracy of their work; ensure that all branch level practices are in accordance with the finance manual and report any inconsistencies to the Managing Director and United States based Finance Department immediately. j. Complete all monthly financial work and report to the Managing Director.
QUALIFICATIONS: I. Personal confession of faith in Jesus Christ and commitment to the mission and vision of HOPE International; II. At least 4 years of finance, accounting, and/or other relevant work experience; III. Knowledge of and experience in external reporting to local and national government bodies including but not limited to preparing the annual audit, taxes, etc.; IV. Experience using accounting software to prepare internal and external reports (included but not limited to income statements, balance sheets, cash flow reports); V. Compliance minded and focused; VI. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word; VII. Trustworthy, motivated and flexible; VIII. Strong English and French language proficiency required, Swahili proficiency advantageous; and IX. Management experience preferred. |
