Regional Facilities Maintenance Manager (Ref: DDG-CS/RFMM/01/14)
Background: The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) invites applications for the regionally recruited position of Regional Facilities Maintenance Manager.

Position/Responsibilities
The Regional Facilities Maintenance Manager will primarily focus on IITA installations in the Eastern and Southern regions of Africa, together with the generators at the staff houses. The other tasks are to:
- Monitor electrical, mechanical and building utilities, maintain written records, and arrange for repairs when necessary.
- Manage construction projects within the IITA Eastern, Central and Southern Africa regions (Bukavu, Zambia and Mozambique).
- Prepare tenders including simple sketches and lists of material specifications for the purposes of construction.
- Supervise external contractors and building facilities service providers including obtaining labour and material quotations from contractors/suppliers.
- Plan and oversee building work/renovation, property acquisition and/or disposal.
- Prepare tenders including simple sketches and lists of material specifications.
- Coordinate building maintenance and operational activities which include the monitoring of electrical, mechanical and building utilities and maintaining written records.
- Supervise multi-disciplinary teams of staff.
- Ensure vehicle maintenance, regular servicing and records, the servicing of IITA Equipment including Generators (office and IRS residences, airconditioning, and the water recycling plant).
- Ensure that the facilities meet government regulations and environmental, health and security standards.
- Manage general upkeep and maintenance including refurbishment, renovations and office moves and ensuring that the building meets health and safety standards and legal requirements.
- Advise on energy efficiency.
- Manage construction and maintenance budgets and keeping records of payments.
- Negotiate the best deals with contractors and suppliers.
- Manage facilities security (CCTV).
- Any other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Educational Qualifications
The candidate should have a degree /Tech Diploma in a) Mechanical Engineering, or b) Electrical Engineering or c) Construction related.
Core Competencies
- Excellent people management skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Minimum of 7years experience in real estate, facilities management, construction management, or related field, ideally in the provision of facilities for educational/research institutions.
- Excellent analytical and strategic problem-solving capabilities
- Experience working in a developing country and within multidisciplinary and culturally diverse environments
- Strong writing skills and excellent knowledge of English.
Duty station: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
