JUMBO OPERATOR
African Barrick Gold’s Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is looking to employ Jumbo Operators to operate Double Boom Jumbo Drill Rigs for underground development mining with the installation of ground support and mechanical ground scaling.
The incumbents will be required to provide training and direction to the development mining team and ensure optimum safe production at minimum cost and within statutory and corporate frameworks.
This position reports to the Mine Captain and is on a rotational basis of 6 weeks on site and 3 weeks off in Tanzania.
KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Ensure that work is carried out through adherence to specifications, schedules and standards.
• Promote and implement the mine’s production and development strategy, policies and standards.
• Able to demonstrate initiative, and to take full responsibility for safety, production and quality of the mining operation (excavation of underground tunnel efficiently and effectively as per targets).
• Able to interpret mine plans and effectively communicate targets and goals.
• Liaise with Mining Operations personnel and other departments, including the engineering and maintenance sections. To interact with a view to improve the maintenance management system and productivity.
• Ensure that safety standards, FLRA, Safe Working Procedures are complied with in full in order to achieve a Zero Lost Time Injury (LTI) frequency rate.
• Report breakdowns, equipment damage, safety near misses, incidents, and accidents according to the laid out procedures, including completing a shift report at the end of each shift.
• To be proactive in all aspects of operational safety, efficient utilization of resources, continuous improvement initiatives, and encourage team work across the department.
• Conduct comprehensive pre-start checks to mining equipment prior to using it and ensure full ownership and care to the end of the shift for long life of equipment.
• Track and follow up any daily variance or deviations from the schedule
• Promote and facilitate training, career development, succession planning, and performance management.
PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES
Education Requirements:
• Relevant Mining qualification or certification.
• Scoop/ Loader and blasting license will be an added advantage.
Experience Requirements:
• Minimum of six (6) years experience in operating Double Boom Jumbo Drill Rigs in underground mining with meshing and bolting.
• Experience with underground mobile mining equipment & operations.
• Able to read and interpret mining lay out plans or maps for drift design.
• Able to identify different rock strata whilst working on the Jumbo Drill Rig.
• Clear and effective English communication skills, both written and spoken.
• Able to work under pressure and perform with minimal supervision.
• Experienced in skills transfer and team development, in a cross cultural environment.
• Impeccable safety standards and lead safety by example.
