Safety & Risk Superintendent , Bulyanhulu Gold Mine in Tanzania

SAFETY AND RISK SUPERINTENDENT

African Barrick Gold’s Bulyanhulu Gold Mine in Tanzania is looking to employ a Safety & Risk Superintendent. This position reports to the Safety Manager and is responsible to provide safety and emergency response advice to Bulyanhulu Gold Mine Limited (BGML) operations to ensure that company objectives and legislative compliance is met at the required work performance standard and in accordance with company policies and procedures.

KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Meet safety goals and objectives, ensure compliance with company safety policies and procedures and relevant Tanzanian regulations.
• Actively promote safety awareness amongst BGML employees and contractors.
• Identify and analyse emerging trends in safety which will affect BGML operations and present recommended strategies for intervention.
• Lead and influence change initiatives and their effective implementation in the work environment, whilst maintaining a consistent approach.
• Establish, develop and coach effective work teams to achieve targets and objectives.
• Understanding related department activities and manage their impact on the program.
• Assist in budget preparation, implementation and the reporting and the monitoring thereof.
• Provide an effective communication channel with the Tanzanian Mine Inspectorate and Ministry of Home Affairs for Fire Safety and Rescue.
• Ensure site safety training needs are identified and relevant programs implemented in conjunction with the training department.
• Implement a robust system to ensure compliance with site induction requirements.
• Monitor and coach the site wide risk assessment process with department leads.
• Participate and train site wide safety based interaction process

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS

Education Requirements:
• Relevant tertiary qualification in health and safety management or equivalent from a recognized institution

Experience Requirements:
• Detailed knowledge of safety and occupation health including supervisory, technical and operational knowledge
• Detailed knowledge of the application of occupational health processes and standards in underground and surface mining operations
• Relevant experience in public health
• Exposure to the challenges of operating in remote sites and in particular in developing countries
• Relevant experience in presenting training courses
• Significant experience in coaching, mentoring and management of OHS personnel
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, as well as computer safety systems and databases
