The International Finance Corporation (IFC), Country office, Nairobi, Kenya is seeking to recruit a dynamic, outgoing, organized and suitably qualified candidate to fill the post of driver
If the selected candidate is a current Bank Group staff member with a Regular or Open-Ended appointment, s/he will retain his/her Regular or Open-Ended appointment. All others will be offered a 2 year term appointment.
Duties and Accountabilities
The driver will be a member of the Country Office staff recruited locally and based in Nairobi, Kenya. Under the direct supervision of the Executive Assistant, the incumbent will drive the IFC’s official vehicle to transport Missions, staff, visitors, delegates, documents, goods or supplies. The work involves driving over relatively short distances during regular working hours and extended trips requiring irregular working hours and overnight availability. The position also includes messenger duties and office backup support as described below.
Duties and Accountabilities include but are not limited to the following:
Messenger Duties:
• Make regular deliverers of parcels, documents, etc. between the office, collection locations and destinations;
• Perform basic office functions, to include: filing his work, photocopying, delivering urgent mail/messages, obtaining authorizations, handling courier services, etc;
Driver Duties:
• Drive a motor vehicle as requested, with due regard to time schedules, apply knowledge of driving regulations, safety requirements, traffic and conditions, and most desirable routes to minimize travel time; ensure that all rules, regulations and local requirements are adhered to in the event of involvement in an accident; take suitable precautions for the security of the vehicle and its contents when left unattended;
• Meet passengers at the boarding location; assist passenger in entering or leaving the vehicle; load and unload baggage, parcels, document, goods or supplies; visit designated location in advance of transporting passengers thereto and advise the supervisor of any problems;
• Undertake the day-to-day maintenance and cleaning of the assigned vehicle, check gasoline, oil, water, battery, brakes, signal lights, tires, etc.; make minor repairs and adjustments such as fixing punctures, replacing signal lights, replacing wiper blades, cleaning or replacing spark plugs and adjusting carburetor;
• Log trips, mileage, gasoline consumption, oil changes, greasing and other servicing, deliver the vehicle to the designated garage or servicing location monitor the work to ensure it is accomplished as requested;
• Make minor purchases and collect required goods from local suppliers on demand;
• Other Duties:
• Act as back-up to other team members in routine office functions, as required;
• Performs ad-hoc duties when assigned.
Selection Criteria
• High school or equivalent diploma or comparable experience.
• Basic knowledge of at least one computer application, such as word processing, electronic mail, etc.;
• Understanding of basic/record systems;
• Knowledge of standard office equipment (e.g. computers, photocopy, fax machines, etc.);
• Excellent driving skills and knowledge of country;
• Good team player, with ability to interact tactfully and effectively with staff at all levels is a multi-cultural environment;
• Ability to work accurately and complete tasks according to specific instruction;
• Fluency in written and spoken English
