Summary
Youth Business International is a global network of independent nonprofit organisations and programmes engaged in youth entrepreneurship support in 38 countries, including within Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Tunisia and Uganda.
YBI interventions enable under-served young people (18-35 years) to start businesses with a holistic package of seed capital, training and mentoring. YBI works with the ‘missing middle’ above subsistence but without access to finance, role models and contacts. Its support has impact beyond the individual via follow-on sustainable job creation and stronger communities.
YBI is led by a small network team based in London. The network team assures the quality of YBI for members and stakeholders by carrying out independent rigorous accreditation, and maximises the impact of the work of its members by global research and impact evaluation, and capacity building via consultancy support, delivery of tools and promotion of best practice, facilitating knowledge sharing and global partnerships, and resource raising.
YBI is looking to expand its integrated support model in Tanzania where it currently has no presence as part of its long term strategy of achieving global scale.
The new youth support intervention will be delivered by one or more relevant local institutions whose activities can be strengthened by engagement with YBI. It is important to YBI that its members are established organisations which are locally rooted and locally led.
The study will involve: -
• Understanding YBI’s approach to supporting youth entrepreneurship
• Analysis of youth entrepreneurship sector and key players in Tanzania
• Introducing YBI to shortlisted potential partners and donors and accompanying YBI on a field trip (March)
• Design of robust interventions delivered by one or more organisations in country supported by YBI and supporting meaningful numbers of young people and with capacity to scale across the country
The feasibility study will identify a shortlist of potential delivery partners for YBI in Tanzania and a field visit by YBI to meet with these. The project will be delivered by an external organisation or individual over 25 days starting on or after February 7th 2014.
The project budget plus expenses is limited to US$18,000 (including all travel, subsistence and incidental expenses, and applicable taxes).
