Job Responsibilities:
• Represent ICRISAT in the region, including liaising with government and other institutes / organizations in the region.
• Coordinate regional research planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation together with the Research Committee and as Chair of the Regional Coordinating Committee.
• Enhance partnership with regional/sub-regional organizations (ROs/SROs)and national agricultural research and extension systems (NARES)
• Liaise closely with the Research Program Directors (RPDs) to ensure cross program interactions and teamwork in the region(s)
• Serve as the focal person in the region for knowledge sharing and innovation.
• Ensure effective management of human, financial and physical resources in the region including the provision of efficient support services.
• Provide inputs on the performance of scientists in the region.
• Ensure the delivery of quality research products and services in the region.
• Coordinate with the DDG-R, RPDs and the Director-SMCO in developing and marketing R4D projects in the region.
• Conduct public awareness activities in coordination with the Director –SMCO.
• Provide appropriate visibility to and effective management of ICRISAT's operations in sub-Saharan Africa.
• Serve as members of the Management Group and Research Committee.
• Although the position is considered primarily administrative, the Director is expected to be involved in research as feasible.
• Perform other responsibilities assigned by the Director General.

Education and Skills :
• PhD degree in Plant Breeding / Genetics / Agronomy / Entomology /Biotechnology, or other related field.
• At least 10 years of post-doctoral research experience in any of the following areas: plant breeding, molecular genetics, genomics, molecular biology or marker-assisted breeding.
• A record of achievement with academic publications, development and management of research grants, and capacity building initiatives.
• Fluency in spoken and written English is essential, and knowledge of French will be an advantage.
