Description of the job:            
Esco Kivu, a privately owned company, has developed the production of cocoa in Eastern DR Congo and is now moving into the export of increasing volumes of cocoa beans. It is looking for an experienced and energetic person who will manage the commercial and technical aspects of purchasing certified cocoa from thousands of smallholder farmers and supervise the staff working in the production department. A job description is attached.
 
Qualifications:• Experience in a commercial business

• Degree or diploma in a field related to the business
• Ability to work well in a team
• Creative in finding sound business solutions
• Able to work independently and in remote locations
• Fluent in English and either French or Swahili, or both

JOB DESCRIPTION
 
Title :                   Cocoa Development Manager, Esco Kivu sprl
 
Department :       Production
 
Reporting to :      Country Manager, Esco Kivu
 
Responsible for :
Factory Managers,Certification Manager, Field Coordinators, Seed garden staff, Plant Health Coordinator.
 
Objective :      
To manage the purchasing, processing and preparation for export of certified and conventional cocoa according to the agreed targets.
 
 
Responsibilities :
1.     Develop policies and procedures for the production department in collaboration with the Country Manager.
2.     Manage the Production department on a day to day basis, with the primary aim of maximizing cocoa purchases and maintaining market share.
3.     Supervise the factory managers processing and stocking cocoa for export.
 
4.     To effect constant improvement of cocoa quality through farmer training in pre and post harvest techniques
5.     Assess staff performance, monitor their effectiveness in the field, identify hindrances and promote optimal productivity.
6.     Create the capacity to certify an increasing number of farmers and optimize the processes involved. Implement the cocoa standards in close collaboration with the relevant certification body and other stakeholders.
7.     Ensure that the farmer list databases are up to date and correct and work towards more efficient methods of data collection.
8.     Coordinate the activities of consultants and trainers of field staff. Develop cocoa manuals, fact sheets and keep abreast of new developments.

9.     Oversee the production of improved seeds for distribution to farmers with a view towards increasing farm yields over the long term.
10. Oversee the activities of plant clinics and use of plant health data.
11. Prepare a weekly work programme and produce monthly and annual reports on the activities of the production department.
12. Any other duties assigned, for example coverage of other crops such as vanilla and cinchona.
