UniBRAIN FACILITY CO-ORDINATOR: Ref: FARA/adv/FacilityCo-ord-UniBrain/2013
FARA is the apex organisation for agricultural research in Africa. The Forum brings together all stakeholders in African agricultural research for development. FARA’s mission is to create broad-based improvements in agricultural productivity, competitiveness and markets by supporting Africa’s sub-regional organisations in strengthening capacity for agricultural innovation.
FARA has in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark started the Universities, Business and Research in Agricultural Innovation (UniBRAIN) initiative with the objective of linking university education, research, and private sector development in sustainable agriculture and agribusiness. UniBRAIN will realise the potential for investment in African agribusiness by breaking barriers and fostering collaboration between universities, business, and research to create cultures and environment that will value, encourage and enable innovation and produce graduates who are problem solvers, decision takers and successful entrepreneurs.
This will be realised by commercialising agribusiness innovations; producing agribusiness graduates with the potential to become effective entrepreneurs; and up-scaling UniBRAIN’s innovative outputs, experiences and practices. The prime focus for this is six pilot agribusiness incubators in five countries, i.e. Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Uganda (2), and Zambia and ensuring their long term success.
FARA is now seeking an individual with the qualifications listed below to work as UniBRAIN Facility Co-ordinator
Reporting to the Director, Capacity Strengthening; the successful candidate shall, assist her in delivering among others, the following roles and responsibilities:
• Monitoring and supervising the UniBRAIN partners and incubators.
• Maintaining and further developing the Management Information and Collaboration System (MICS).
• Facilitating networking within UniBRAIN and with investors, stakeholders etc.
• Further eveloping and promoting the UniBRAIN brand.
• Providing overall responsibility for achieving programmatic targets, quality assurance and adherence to timelines.
• Providing day-to-day technical coordination within UniBRAIN.
• Identifying and facilitating the delivery of capacity development requirements
• Providing leadership for resource mobilization for maintaining and expanding the UniBRAIN and for helping the incubators and incubatees in developing and realising their financing strategies.
• Ensuring that the Monitoring and Evaluation specialist has access to the information and data required for thorough and timely evaluation of the initiative and for statutory and management purposes.
• Facilitating work programmes of the UniBRAIN Facility staff in accordance with mandates discharged by the UniBRAIN Executive Committee and in accordance with FARA rules and regulations.
• Facilitating and working for UniBRAIN’s continuous relevance, viability and financial sustainability.

RequiredThe successful candidate must have a graduate or equivalent qualification in agribusiness, business or finance and must have more than 5 year’s post qualification experience. S/he must have a successful track record in running and/or promoting agribusiness preferably, but not necessarily, in the private sector. S/he must have demonstrated strong agribusiness credentials with a passion for promoting African agribusiness incubation and training and learning. Fluency in English is essential and fluency in French would be a considerable advantage. The position is open to African Union nationals who are willing and able to work in Sub Saharan Africa
Duty Station: Nairobi, Kenya /Accra, Ghana with frequent travels to the incubators and partners.
