The goal of this fellowship is to provide a training-through-service opportunity for a diploma holder in biomedical science (minimum) to obtain experience in TB laboratory bench-work and management. Through this experience, the Fellow will provide direct technical assistance to the National TB and Leprosy Control Program (NTLP) of the Ministry of Health-Uganda for TB control epidemiology, advocacy, and strengthening of the translation of public health science to action.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Over the period of performance, the incumbent will receive advanced training in TB control epidemiology and interventions, under the mentorship and technical supervision of the Program Manager, NTLP and the Director, National TB Reference Laboratory. Additional technical assistance will be provided by the Africa Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET), U.S. CDC Uganda/ Atlanta, and other MOH technical partners. The incumbent will be based at the laboratory of the Mbale Regional Referral Hospital, working with the NTLP, districts, and other key stakeholders. The incumbent will support implementation of routine TB laboratory activities, including external quality assurance, and develop competency in the following areas:
