Afri-Can Trust Operations Manager


Afri-Can Trust is a non-profit making organization whose work aims to alleviate poverty among the marginalized communities in the society in Western Kenya. The organization's major major focus is in the rural and slum population where access to quality livelihood has become a challenge to many residents due to high poverty index.
The organization was founded in the Netherlands and later incorporated in Kenya as a Trust. The organization has over 6 years experience in community development work including training community members in technical skills upgrading, business planning and sustainable social entrepreneurship.
Reporting to the Executive Director (ED) and serving as a member of the Management Team, the Operation's Manager's primary responsibility will be to ensure organizational effectiveness by providing leadership for the organization's business units (Afri-Car Garage and I-Care Pads production unit) and the Afri-Can Technical Training Centre with a view to attain organization’s vision and strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
I. Financial Management • Assist the Executive Director and Board in developing annual organizational budget. • Oversee monthly and quarterly assessments and forecasts of organization's financial performance against budget, financial and operational goals. Oversee short and long-term financial and managerial reporting. • Administering payroll and organizational insurance. II. Organizational Leadership and Effectiveness • Contribute to short and long-term organizational planning and strategy as a member of the management team. • Manage functions of the I-Care production unit. Ensure that the production unit including the machines are functioning and the stock (the raw materials) are always in place. • Increase the effectiveness and efficiency of business units and the training centre through improvements to each department. • Drive initiatives in the management team and the entire organization that contribute to long-term operational excellence. • Take minutes during management meetings and share with the team afterwards. III. Sustainable Organization • Work with the management team to identify new opportunities for funding as well as new clients for Afri-Car garage and I-Care pads towards attainment of a sustainable organization.
IV. Human Resource Management • In charge of HR related issues of the organization • Determine staffing requirements, and interview new employees, or oversee those personnel processes such as preparing contracts, putting a system in place for keeping record of the days of leave. • Coordinate human resource management including recruitment procedures for short and long-term contract staff, and oversee orientation and performance improvement of all new staff.
V. Marketing Functions • Support the Marketing Manager in the field during sensitization workshops and promoting all the activities of Afri-Can business units and the training centre.
Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or equivalent required. • Minimum 5 years relevant experience in operations management required, with at least 2 years in management/leadership role in NGO sector • Strong background and work experience in Finance and Human Resource management • Excellent computer skills and proficient in excel, word, outlook, and access • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written • Knowledge and experience in organizational effectiveness and operations management implementing best practices. • A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace
