Women for Women International (WfWI), an INGO headquartered in
Washington DC and operating in eight countries around the world, seeks
to hire a Life Skills and Sponsorship Program Manager, to be based in
Yei, South Sudan, with travel to other locations as required.
- Job Summary The Life Skills & Sponsorship (LS&S) Manager is responsible for overseeing the successful implementation of the South Sudan country office life skills & sponsorship program activities, including identification and assessment of appropriate communities for program implementation, the recruitment and enrolment of program participants, women’s rights and life skills training, and sponsorship activities (including direct aid funds and sister letter exchange). The LS&S Manager reports to the Country Director and is a member of the Senior Management Team.
- Main Duties and Responsibilities Program Management • Ensure that community assessment, recruitment and enrolment of women is carried out in accordance with WfWI program guidelines and mission. • Develop and maintain good relationships with local leaders, community groups, partner organizations and program participants. • Ensure that the life skills training and sponsorship activities are effectively and efficiently administered and operate according to established guidelines, including delivery of direct aid funds, coordination of training sessions, and support and guidance to trainers. • Participate in country office strategy development and operational planning, representing the LS&S department and keeping team members informed of all changes in program strategy, policy, guidelines and expectations. Program Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting • In collaboration with the M&E Manager, oversee the collection of monitoring and evaluation data according to guidelines; coordinate with appropriate staff to provide information on the life skills and sponsorship program for all reports that require it—internal and external. • Ensure the timely and accurate delivery of data on the life skills and sponsorship program to the WfWI headquarters office in Washington DC. Personnel Management • Supervise Life Skills Trainers and Sponsorship Officer in accordance with WfWI’s performance management framework, including the setting of annual performance objectives, annual performance development plans, annual performance appraisal and regular 1:1 meetings regarding progress throughout the year. • Ensure the effective personnel management of all members of the LS&S department, providing support to line managers as needed. Budget Management • Responsible for the efficient and effective use of LS&S program budget; ensure that expenses are reviewed and approved according to budget and need. • Participate in new budget development and annual operational budget planning for the LS&S department.
- Required Skills & Qualifications • Master’s degree in Social Work, Education, Development or relevant field (Bachelor’s degree and substantial relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of Master’s degree); • Minimum 7 years relevant work experience, of which at least 3 years at managerial level, preferably within the I/NGO environment; • Demonstrable understanding of and experience in gender issues and commitment to addressing gender inequalities in all key areas of responsibility; • Experience and ability in coaching and motivating staff; • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; • Experience in networking and building relationships across different strata of society; • Ability and willingness to travel within South Sudan and internationally as required; • Excellent written and oral communication skills; • Language fluency in English required (reading, writing and speaking); local language skills highly desireable; • Good computer skills in MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Email; • Must be a citizen of South Sudan or third country national with valid work permit.
