Position Description:
Ongeza: Ongeza is a social enterprise creating a sustainable and scalable model that reaches the last mile to rural customers. Ongeza's own sales force sell directly to rural customers products which save money, increase income or improve quality of life. Ongeza sources the best products, including but not limited to solar lights, efficient stoves, agricultural equipment and inputs, water solutions and transportation equipment. Ongeza has plans to grow quickly across Tanzania. Ongeza is a start-up which has secured its first round of funding. Ongeza is building an excellent and high performing team to establish and grow the business.
Description: The Agriculture Manager will manage the agriculture products and services in the company's portfolio. This includes selecting suitable products, services and suppliers, managing supplier relationships, training the sales team and customers on the products and services, and creating all necessary marketing and training materials.
Responsibilities: An ideal candidate will:
- Manage all aspects of the agricultural portfolio.
- Design and implement the strategy to increase yields for the target customers.
- Identify and find solutions for all crop issues for Ongeza customers.
- Design and implement best farming practices for Ongeza customers.
- Create and conduct agriculture training for staff and customers.
Qualifications: An ideal candidate will have:
- Minimum ten years work experience in the area of agriculture with a minimum of five years of management experience.
- Experience and passion for working in rural areas.
- Extensive knowledge and experience on growing maize, beans, mbaazi and sunflowers.
- Knowledge of drip irrigation and weather index insurance and their methods.
- Experience designing and conducting agriculture training.
- Knowledge and experience with the latest technology in seeds, fertilizer and chemicals.
- Proven track record of designing and implementing projects while setting and meeting goals.
- Bachelor of Science in Agronomy or Agriculture or other related field or equivalent education/experience.
- Creative problem solving.
- Fluency in Swahili and English.
- Comfort working in a start-up environment.
Location: Arusha, Tanzania with frequent travel to field locations.
Compensation: Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
