Purpose of the Post:
Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Communication and the general guidance of the Representative, the Partnerships Specialist will be responsible for conceptualizing, planning, executing, monitoring and evaluating UNICEF’s partnerships, advocacy and fundraising strategy and ensure that the organization is better placed to leverage these partnerships for the benefit of children in Malawi.
Major Duties:
1. Provide strategic direction in fostering and strengthening partnerships with bi- and multilateral organizations to effectively leverage resources for children in support of UNICEF Malawi’s Country Programme (including funding assessment and analysis, development of a fundraising plan, strategic use of resources and involvement in key programme processes, especially situation analysis, reviews and evaluations). Monitors and evaluates its impact.
2. Ensure effective collaboration with key government line ministries to maintain children's rights as part of the national development agenda by facilitating bilateral meetings (Government, UNICEF and UN Agencies), organizing and coordinating high profile visits, regional and international conferences and prepare fact sheets and other relevant information materials.
3. Participate in relevant sector working groups and, if necessary, in technical working groups and donor group meetings in order to effectively position UNICEF and leverage resources for children.
4. Develop an annual advocacy strategy
5. Ensure that the country office’s fund-raising and resource mobilization activities are supported by an effective advocacy and communication strategy. Develop, design, adapt, package and disseminate relevant fundraising and resource mobilization materials such as documentaries/clips, publications, power point presentations, photographs, website write-ups, social media write-ups, etc., for NY, Geneva, NATCOMS, donors, the Regional Office and other identified international target audiences as well as participate in key donor/partnerships meetings and conferences.
6. Ensure that UNICEF’s broader engagement with the private or corporate sector maximizes results for children by leveraging financial and non-financial resources and infusing the child rights perspective into private sector policy and practice.
Required qualifications:
1. Education:
• Advanced university degree in social sciences.
2. Work Experience:
• Minimum 5 years of professional experience in the relevant field;
• Familiarity with recent initiatives towards greater aid harmonization and how this has been structured at national level;
• Ability to influence and interact with senior level decision-makers across different organizations and cultures; to act with credibility, tact and diplomacy in order to resolve issues;
• Ability to manage and conduct large and complex analyses, including collating and presenting data, monitoring and evaluation, progress reporting;
• Proven ability to lead and manage teams, establish priorities and to plan, coordinate and monitor own work plan and those relevant to the team and partners;
• Strong skills in facilitation, project management, team-building, and communication;
3. Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is required
