People in Need established its permanent mission in the Democratic Rebublic of Congo in January 2009. With projects focused on improving access to safe drinking water, better quality healthcare and education and support for victims of sexual violence, PIN operates in the province of South Kivu in the East of the country.
Head of Mission DR Congo
The role of the Head of Mission is to overall manage and coordinate PIN country operation in DR Congo. He/she supervises international and local staff, represents PIN towards local authorities, international aid agencies, donor institutions, partner organisations and other key contacts in country. In coordination and cooperation with PIN HQ, the Head of Mission ensures the stability, safety and security and further development of PIN country operation in DRC.
Starting date: December 2011 Duration: 18 months with possibility of extension
Main responsibilities: • management of operations of the mission - coordination of all mission activities, planning development of the mission, ensuring coherence of its activities with country needs • consulting and leading program officers and local employees • communication with donors, fundraising • program development (design, proposal writting) • supervision of financial management – sustainability, budgeting, strategic financial decisions • representation of PIN in DRC – communication with donors, local authorities etc. • ensuring the security and safety of the mission Main requirements: • outstanding English and French (both spoken and written) is a must! • experience in team management in development context • experience in program management (needs assessments, proposal writing, implementation, monitoring and evaluation) • mature, reliable personality with ability to decide and work independently • strong teambuilding skills • ability to organize and plan effectively • ability to work in difficult conditions and under pressure • cultural sensitivity, work/travel in development countries People in Need offers: • challenging and creative work • opportunity for self-development • cooperation with a young and motivated team within a stable organizational background • salary defined by PIN‘s salary grid
