The United State Agency for International Development’s bi-lateral Mission for Kenya, USAID / Kenya, seeks to fill the position of Geospatial Facility Manager within the Executive Office.
The incumbent will lead a team of GIS Analysts and interns that deliver a range of geospatial services to the technical staff within the Mission.
The Manager will concentrate on building awareness and demand for geospatial services within USAID staff as well as providing technical oversight and project management skills.
The Geospatial Facility is a new addition to the USAID offices and offers a great opportunity to demonstrate innovation and leadership for the right individual.

- Provision of a wide range of geospatial services to a variety of technical sectors;
- lead the further development of the facility thought clear and practical annual deliverables;
- manage facility staff, giving them technical guidance to deliver practical and timely solutions;
- act as the central point of contact for geospatial related communications between USAID staff in Nairobi, Implementing Partners and other USG groups utilizing GIS; and
- promote the role of geospatial technology within the Mission through regular communication and planned training and outreach initiatives.

Experience (50%):
- Five years of progressively responsible experience in geospatial technology, administration and business management.
- Experience in developing, implementing, and managing departmental work plans within a large organization.
- Experience applying geospatial tools in support of international development within Kenya and/or East Africa.
- At least two years of experience leading a team of geospatial professionals to provide a services oriented approach that meets multiple and often time sensitive demands.
- Experience managing complex databases and the development of web based mapping applications using ArcGIS Server and Adobe Flex.
- Must have exhibited a success in communicating complex technical subjects to well educated colleagues that have only limited exposure to geospatial technology.
Knowledge (20%):
- In-depth professional-level knowledge of Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing and Global Positioning System technology.
- Possess an understanding of USAID development principles, concepts, and practices, especially as they relate to the position and geographic region.
Applicants will also be tested on their technical ability using desktop GIS programs and their understanding of USAID’s existing web mapping applications.
Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.
Ability to work in teams to achieve positive results and to facilitate meetings and make oral presentations to senior officials in a multicultural context is required.
