Sudanese Organization for Nonviolence and Development (SONAD) is a voluntary non-profit making organization. It was initiated in 1994 as a response to the marginalization of youth in the decision making processes. SONAD is legally registered entity with the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs Khartoum and with the Ministry of Legal Affairs and Constitutional Development (Government of Southern Sudan), Juba.

SONAD is seeking a qualified suitable full-time Nonviolence Project Officer
The position
This is a full-time position with one year contract subject to renewal based on employee’s performance. The officer will be based in Juba with possibility of field work in other States of South Sudan where SONAD operates.
The main purpose of the job
The project officer will be responsible for the Nonviolence project including; Nonviolence & Interfaith Dialogue, Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP), Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding. The post holder will help SONAD to develop Nonviolence & Conflict Transformation proposals which will attract additional funding and expand the influence of the organisation in promoting Nonviolence and Peaceful co-existence in Southern Sudan. In addition the officer will coordinate networking and collaboration with other likeminded organizations.
Specific duties and responsibilities
• Project coordination and management: ensure that SONAD plans, implements and reviews its Nonviolence project in line with the approved project proposal and budgets.
• Initiate, design and develop new proposals, conduct baselines, planning and implementing Nonviolence and Conflict Transformation project in line with SONAD’s financial management and project implementation and monitoring standards.
• Uphold good standards of project monitoring, evaluation and reporting to ensure that good impact is achieved and documented, and funding flow is maintained.
• Connect with, develop and maintain relationships with relevant stakeholders and personalities both locally and internationally. This will include students community based organizations, governmental line Ministry (ies), students associations, women groups, religious institutions and peace organizations.
• Consult on and develop researches, advocacy and lobbying packages for SONAD on issues of nonviolence, human rights and democracy.
• Provide substantive input in the preparation of position papers and reports in Nonviolence, Gender Based Violence and Governance issues.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
Qualifications and Competencies required
Essential
• Experience and expertise in Nonviolence and Conflict Transformation programming. This includes experience in designing, implementing, evaluating and reporting projects.
• Ability to design and develop project proposals and raising additional funding for the project.
• Education: University degree or its equivalent in social sciences.
• Experience of and familiarity with Southern Sudan with excellent interpersonal skills; ability to establish and maintain exceptional working relations with people in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
• Demonstrated ability to write concise analytical reports (in English), an ability to guide and develop training modules and manual and presentations in Nonviolence and peacebuilding.
• At least 3 years experience of working with non governmental organizations with background of working with civil society and international organizations.
• Computer literate with knowledge to use internet
• Demonstrate initiative, perseverance and ability to work with less supervision.
• Willingness to travel and work outside operational base.
Desirable
• Experience of peace work
• Postgraduate studies in similar field will be of an advantage.
• Ability and willingness to learn and use local languages
