Position: LITIGATION & CLAIMS OFFICER

Reporting to: CHIEF LEGAL COUNSEL

Duration: THREE (3) YEARS

ROLE:

• Provides accurate and comprehensive legal advice, legal representation and legal services to the Company; 

• Implements, assists, and supports the work functions of the department in meeting company targets, securing and preserving company interests; 

• Perform duties assigned by the Department head. 

QUALIFICATION AND COMPETENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B) 

• Advocate of the High Court of Tanzania (with at least 2 – 5 years of post-admission experience) 

• Knowledgeable and experienced in Civil litigation in Tanzania 

• Knowledge in English Common Law, English litigation procedure, and Roman Dutch Law legal systems, (added advantage) 

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

• A high level of concentration and organisation 

• Ability to multi task, prioritise and manage competing demands; 

• Ability to work well independently and as part of a team 

• Computer literate and experienced in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook) 

• Excellent communication skills in Kiswahili and English (written and verbal) 

• Friendly, professional, enthusiastic and keen to understand about company operations and funtions 

• Pays attention to details and keen eye for quality management of work 

• Responsible and accountable for own actions 

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Represent the company in court or ADR proceedings; 

• Receive and manage case or claims documents from user departments or external counsel; 

• Consults with department head or external lawyers on litigation options, structure, workflow and initial time frames. 

• Providing timely advice and performs specific requests for individual case file or case documents review, merging or update on litigation or claims 

• Assist department head in case management 

• Observant of professional etiquette, ethics and conduct 

• Performs other duties as and when assigned by department head
