FHI 360 serves more than 60 countries, all 50 U.S. states and all U.S. territories.   FHI 360 is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Chief of Party (Project Director) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Additional Responsibilities:
Provide overall technical and management leadership to the design and implementation for USAID-funded, 5-year, multi-million dollar HSS project in Tanzania. Availability of position is contingent upon funder approval.
 
 
  • Ensures an integrated vision for the project, and a focus on achieving the results as defined in the contract.
  • Primarily responsible for the successful achievement of the entire project objectives, deliverables, and impact.
  • Act as the key liaison between USAID/Tanzania and all other stakeholders, implementing partners and Government of Tanzania officials that are involved in the program.
  • Provides oversight for the HSS project, programmatic reviews of programs, including quality assurance efforts.
  • Manages the Health Systems Strengthening unit, and mentors and supervises the staff of the unit include admin and finance staff support staff.
  • Develops and provides technical/scientific and management leadership, as well as program personnel and budget oversight.
  • Identifies funding opportunities and participates in the development and writing of proposals.
  • Supports application of HSS quality improvement approaches and provides on-site support to staff at the policy, facility and community levels if needed.
  • Supports HSS country program to design scale up strategies to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of health systems.
  • Documents and publishes the results of HSS work of FHI 360.
  • Represents FHI 360 at scientific meetings and with funders such as USAID, other donors as well as private foundations, international organizations, and implementing agencies.
  • Ensures coordination with other FHI 360 units, departments and groups to foster collaboration, innovative approaches and technical excellence.
Qualifications:
  • MS/MPH in relevant field and 13-15 years of relevant experience that includes 9-11 years of supervisory experience.
  • And/or MD or PhD in relevant field and (10-12) years of relevant experience that includes (5-7) years of supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and sustain professional relationships and to work collaboratively with host country government counterparts and civil society organizations.
  • Prior experience building the technical capacity of local organizations for health-focused social mobilization; knowledge of capacity development and system strengthening methods required to accomplish the HSS program.
  • Management of a USG cooperative agreement or contract, of which at least five years shall have been in senior program management, including professional and support staff supervision.
  • Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal skills, including proven ability to develop and communicate a common vision among diverse partners and lead a multi-disciplinary team.
  •  Demonstrated experience in leading organizational units and/or project teams.
  • Proven skills in resource development including identifying opportunities and leading or participating in the proposal development process.
  • Ability to influence change and build strong relations with various stakeholders (donors, partners, country programs).
  • Expertise in one of the core topic areas of health systems strengthening.
  • Sensitivity to cultural differences and understanding of the political and ethical issues surrounding public health issues
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English; knowledge of Kiswahili would be desirable.
  • Ability to travel internationally as needed.
  • The incumbent should possess a high level of technical/scientific knowledge of health systems issues, an in-depth expertise in one or more components of health systems such as, for instance, human resources for health and experience in quality improvement.
  • Relevant computer software skills (including, at a minimum, the standard applications in MS Office)
  • Fluency in English required, proficiency in Kiswahilli preferred; and
  • Tanzanian nationals are strongly encouraged to apply
