Purpose of the role:

The primary purpose of this position is to support the mining production activities by assisting the Production Superintendents, Production Supervisors and Operators to operational practices within the mining department, with the aim to improving productivity, efficiencies and reduce the overall unit mining cost. This will also involve implementing the Operational Effectiveness Training to the mining Supervisors & Superintendents to ensure the long term sustainability of the operational improvements.

Accountabilities of the Operations Effectiveness Specialist:

• Monitor mining operations to establish a base for current practices in order to identify key areas for focus.
• Analyse mining practices and identify impact on equipment and costs.
• Physically intervene by operating equipment to demonstrate good practice.
• Instructs, guides and coaches mining Operators, Supervisor, & Superintendents on good operating practices within the pit.
• Document and establish standards for production supervision on equipment use and operating conditions.
• Assist in implementing the Operational Effectiveness Training to mining Supervisors & Superintendents.
• Regularly provide progress feedback to the Mining Manager on progress.

Desired Skills and Experience

Qualifications, Skills and experience:

Education

• Grade 12 Certificate.
• Training in mining equipment operations.

Competencies and experience

• Minimum 10 years mining experience in an open pit.
• Ability to operate primary open pit mining equipment.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organisation.
• Understanding of HSSE principles around open pit mining operations.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to work in a team player and work towards team goals.
• Sound management, administrative, and organizational skills.
• Sound analytical and process skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, especially at operator level.
• Ability and willingness to train and up-skill a national workforce to international standards of practice.
• Proficiency in the use and application of the following software:  Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook)
