Rwanda Media Commission (RMC) is the institution responsible for Media Self-Regulation in Rwanda. Its mandate is contained in Media Law N° 02/20 13 of 08/02/2013 especially Article 2, paragraph 20 that defines media self regulation and the circumstances the body is put in place. In particular, the body enforces the journalistic code of ethics, acts as the primary and highest adjudicator of complaints against the media, represents the broader interests of journalists and defends media freedom and media consumers in general.
In order to meet its mandate, the RMC is seeking to recruit experienced, self-motivated and managerially effective individuals to fill the following positions.
1. Legal Officers (2)
Duties
To coordinate activities related to media freedom, and legal affairs m the Media Self-Regulatory Body,
Act as the legal advisor between the members of the Media Self-Regulatory Body and stakeholders as well as other partners,
Investigates and handles cases of violations of media freedom and ethics both from public and media practitioners,
Record, document and communicate proceedings of the Ethics committee,
Follow up on the implementation of the Media Self-Regulatory
Body action plan,
Build and maintain relationships between the Media Self-Regulatory
Body and the public, business community, government departments,
development partners and NGOs,
Manage the perception/image of the organization as independent, professional and reliable organ,
Produce periodical reports related to complaints handling and advocacy,
Carry out other activities as assigned by the management of (RMC)

Bachelor of Law (LLB)
Knowledge of media and media related laws
Knowledge of legal drafting and documentation,
Knowledge of dispute resolution

2. Communications and PR officer
Duties :
Is primarily responsible for the management, review and implementation of the RMC’s Communications strategy and Plan. In particular, he/she shall execute the following functions :
Advises the Executive Secretary on all internal and external communications
Organises and manages press conferences, co-ordinates statements and announcements on behalf of the Commission and informs the public about the Commission ’s activities
Manages and ensure regular update of the RMC’s digital media platforms including the Website and social media channels such as twitter, Facebook ,instagram, flickr and others
Acts as spokesperson when necessary and according to the instructions of the Executive Secretary
Act as the principle contact person for all issues related to media, stakeholders and the public
Prepares and distributes press releases and other information
Prepares and maintains database concerning the information on all media in Rwanda
Organises media interviews/statements for and on behalf of the Chairman, Executive Secretary and Board members as appropriate
Responsible for internal and external communications
Edit and manage all publications of RMC including print and online publications and ensure high quality products

Knowledge of media and media related issues
Knowledge of current media status in Rwanda
Proficiency in both English and French languages
Having media background would be an added advantage
Ready to start working

Disciplined character with high level of integrity
