Purpose of the role:
The primary purpose of this position is to manage the day-to-day operations of the Geita mine fuels and lubricants process. Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, this role is responsible for the overall stock control and the the administration of outsourced contracts for fuels, lubricants and related services in order to control shrinkage, ensure product quality assurance, improve environmental compliance to acceptable tolerance levels and to reduce the administrative time required to reconcile fuel usage to stock inventory levels.
The role holder will also be involved in the implementation of fuels and lubricants related cost reduction strategies.
Accountabilities:
Accountabilities of the Fuel Management Specialist:
- Ensure the receipt, storage, handling, issuing of the mine’s fuel stocks are in a safe and cost effective manner;
- Liaise with the Supplier/Transporter to ensure that the mine’s fuel stocks are maintained at adequate levels at all times;
- Conduct fuels and lubricants contract quality control and quality assurance, accounting and invoicing verification;
- Ensure that internal control systems are functioning to the highest standard including accurate and complete accounting;
- Ensures depot operations meet all company audit and legal requirements.
- Report and maintain all electronic/hardcopy records to ensure proper audit trail;
- Review and monitor the monthly performance reports as per the agreed KPIs, identify operational gaps and design appropriate corrective actions, that is, appropriate controls, processes and procedures aimed at improving performance and operational efficiencies.
- Monitor fuel usage for vehicles, generators, individual users and contractors and analyse any major anomalies or patterns of inconsistent fuel consumption;
- Ensure that routine quality control and quality assurance procedures and fuel equipment maintenance checks are carried out and coordinate with the fuel supplier on issues pertaining to safety, security and maintenance of fuel installations including the electronic fuel management system;
- Interact with other internal groups concerning fuel and lubricants related technical matters, conveying ideas, and recommending possible solutions to problems.

Qualifications, skills and experience:
Education
- Grade 12 Certificate.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in a technical or business related field.
- Training in the control handling and storage of bulk fuels and lubricants.
Competencies and experience
- Minimum 3 years relevant experience in business and logistical operations
- An ability to develop an effective working relationship across all levels of the organisation.
- HSSE and operations understanding.
- Well-developed time management skills as well as the ability to manage multiple tasks.

- Good knowledge of fuel custody transfer systems or automated fuel management systems.
