Under the overall supervision of the Director of the Office for Partnerships, Advoca cy and Capacity Development, the incumbent will serve as a Policy Officer, coordinating and leading family farming issues and actions, including the relationship with partner institutions. In particular, the incumbent will:

lead and manage
the Organization's work on Family
Farming within each of its strategic objectives;
-
identify, develop , implement and moni tor strategic partnerships w ith multiple sta keholders to pr omote family far ming at global, regional a nd national level;
-
contribute to the understand ing of the policies and i nstitutional contexts that support fami ly farming by region , including les sons learnt, and develop a data base on these policies and their impact;
-
serve as Focal Point for techni cal and decentra lized units, a s well as Fami ly Farming or ganizations, for programmes and activities ai med at increasing capacity and institutional development in support of country policies;
-
promote the exc hange of knowl edge and information of Fa mily Far ming within the Or ganization, as w ell as with ex ternal stakehol ders; encourage policy dialogue on Family Farming at regional and country level;
-
coordinate the Al liance Agains t Hunger and M alnutrition as an advocacy plat form on gender, family farming a nd right to food a t the national, regional and global level;
-
establish links w ith different FAO e ntities, including the Committee on World Food Securi ty (CFS) and ot her relevant r egional and national fora on policy discussions on Family Farming;
-
represent FAO , as required, in inter-agency , inter-division al and other meeti ngs, and provide support in or ganizing rel evant technical mee tings, training programmes and advocacy activities for the fight against hunger;

advocate and build a wareness of Family Farm ing in the fight agai nst hunger, and pro vide leadershi p to activities an d programmes in support of the International Year of Family Farming ( IYFF);

perform other related duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:
-
Advanced univer sity degree in e conomics, polit ical science, sociology, inter national relation s, agricultur e or a related field
-
Seven years of r elevant exper ience in providi ng policy advi ce and conducting an alysis in the fields of food, agr iculture or r ural develop ment, in particular on family farming, in collaboration with governmental and international agencies and non-governmental organizations
-
Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one
- f the other two, or Arabic or Chinese or Russian
SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:

Extent of know ledge and experi ence in providin g policy advice a nd conducting ana lysis in the fields of food, agr iculture or ru ral develop ment, in particular on family farming, in developing countries that include work with producers organizations and other relevant institutions

Ability to successfully negotiate on sensitive subjects with governments and stakeholders

Extent of managerial and leadership experienc e

Demonstrated analytic and strategic planning skills

Excellent oral a nd interperson al communicati on skills in English and abi lity to prepar e clear and conc ise reports; w orking knowledge of ano ther working language would be an asset

Demonstrated abi lity to establi sh and maintain, dialo gues with va rious partner s including non-s tate actors, gove rnments and inter- governmental organizations

Relevance and level of academic qualifications
