Organizational Setting |
The Incident and Emergency Centre (IEC) is located in the Department of Nuclear Safety and Security and reports to the Deputy Director General, Head of the Department. The IEC serves as the IAEA's focal point for responding to nuclear or radiological incidents and emergencies and for strengthening Member States' emergency response and preparedness. The IEC operating environment is dynamic, participative and interactive, involving emergency response activities (e.g. emergency response missions) and collaboration with the relevant counterparts in the Member States and international organizations. The Emergency Preparedness Officer works in the area of strengthening Member States' preparedness and reports to the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator. |
Main purpose |
As a member of a team led by the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, the Emergency Preparedness Officer develops, implements and coordinates programmes for enhancing Member States' preparedness for response to nuclear and radiological incidents and emergencies. |
Role |
The Emergency Preparedness Officer plays a multifunctional role: (1) a manager, implementing the technical support for technical projects in various regions; (2) a team member or leader, facilitating and implementing the provision of emergency preparedness reviews and advice to Member States; and (3) atechnical expert, providing for the application of operational standards, guidelines and technical tools for different aspects of incident and emergency preparedness and response. |
Partnerships |
The Emergency Preparedness Officer cooperates with the relevant staff and experts within the IAEA to ensure that projects in the area of preparedness for response to nuclear and radiological incidents and emergencies are implemented efficiently. He/she also has close interaction with Member States and national counterparts in emergency preparedness programmes in terms of discussing needs for the IAEA's programme to strengthen Member States' capabilities and arrangements for preparedness for response to nuclear and radiological incidents and emergencies, the provision of technical advice, work programmes and feedback from their implementation. |

Remuneration |
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $67 483 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $38 195*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation, home leave,pension plan and health insurance.
