Chemonics seeks a deputy chief of party for an anticipated USAID-funded project based in sub-Saharan Africa. The project will focus on mitigating conflict and stabilizing vulnerable or conflict-prone communities through the implementation of a small grants program. The deputy chief of party will be responsible for all programmatic activities, including development of grant activities and coordination of short-term technical assistance. The candidate will support the Chief of Party in overall program management, supervise activity development and staff, ensure appropriate grant and STTA design, establish policies and procedures for grants management, oversee compliance with those policies and procedures, support monitoring and evaluation activities, and liaise with USAID. Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required
- Minimum of four years of relevant experience on projects in a related role (grants, sub-grants or small grants under contract, and short-term technical assistance) required
- Supervisory and leadership experience required
- Experience with activity design and management of development projects required
- Must be familiar with or have considerable experience in community participation projects, as well as those that are focused on conflict and political transition
- Must possess the capacity to understand and analyze national, regional, and local politics; to guide the program staff in creatively designing grants that relate to current conflict dynamics and political events; and to ensure that activities are appropriately implemented, monitored, evaluated, and closed out
- Previous experience in sub-Saharan Africa or similar context preferred
- Previous USAID experience preferred
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
- Fluency in English is required
