UNICEF, the world’s leading organization working for the rights of children, seeks an Associate Director, Cross-Sectoral Policy, D-1, Division of Policy and Strategy, New York.
Purpose:
1) To strengthen UNICEF’s use of evidence to influence cross-sectoral policies so that they improve results for disadvantaged and excluded children, including through national development plans and budgets, macro-economic policy, social protection policy and sustainable development policy (demography, migration, urbanization and climate change).
2) To lead and manage high quality technical advice, tools and guidance for UNICEF regional and country offices related to cross-sectoral dimensions of economic and social policy, and to provide advice to Programme Division colleagues on economic and public finance dimensions of UNICEF’s sectoral work.
3) To build global level partnerships in economic and social policy analysis and dialogue, in collaboration with the Office of Research as appropriate, in order to leverage results and resources for children and women.
4) To provide high-quality advice to the senior management of UNICEF in these areas and on global economic and social trends and their impact on children.
Qualification:
• Advanced university degree in social science or related field.
• At least twelve years’ experience in development work, with at least four years at the field level, including country-level engagement in development planning, macro-economic policy, public administration reform or other relevant cross-cutting issues. Experience with UNICEF field programmes an asset.
• Established intellectual leadership in a relevant area of cross-cutting social, economic or environmental policy. A track record of relevant peer-reviewed publications an asset.
• Excellent command of written and oral English is required. A good working knowledge of Spanish or French is highly desired.
