The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, is seeking for two dynamic, innovative, and self-motivated professionals with excellent organizational, data management and people skills to work in the Science Informatics Unit (SIU). Successful candidates will lead tasks and activities related to software development using innovative platforms and state of the art technology.
The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, known by its Spanish acronym, CIMMYT, is a not-for-profit research and training organization with partners in over 100 countries, focused on increasing food security and reducing poverty at an international scale.
The positions will be based at CIMMYT’s Main Campus (located 45 km northeast of Mexico City, Mexico) but will interact with all CIMMYT´s experimental stations and regional office (country and world-wide) on a regular basis.
The main responsibilities of this position will be:
- Lead technical group of software developers in all stages of software development cycle from the establishment of user requirements through implementation of bioinformatics solutions.
- Implement a structured and logical view to administer the resources of the unit, including scheduling of staff assigned to the projects under their responsibility.
- Responsible for solving technical problems faced by others regarding the services provided by the Unit.
- Participate in the planning and prioritization of activities related to the design and implementation of bioinformatics solutions.
- Lead efforts to capture, analyze and document user requirements for deployment of bioinformatics solutions.
- Asses design and implement data models, schemas, and bioinformatics solutions.
- Participate in the design and implementation of integrated bioinformatics solutions.
- Participate in the development of training materials required in related activities. .
- Present seminars, workshops and training courses.
- Create and maintain good working relationships with other members of the unit within a highly professional environment.
- Maintain effective relationships with customers, key stakeholders, and technology teams.
- Guide and assist in the professional development of staff at SIU.
- Work effectively in a diverse team environment.
- Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
We are seeking candidates with the following qualification, skills and attitudes:
- BS/BA in Computer Science, Systems, Informatics or areas related to Information Technology.
- Three to five years of experience in developing and/or using informatics tools for the management of large-volume data sets.
- Strong knowledge of the following IT skills, programming languages and development solutions:
o Programming Languages and Scripts: JAVA, HTML, XML, CSS, XSTL
o Integrated Development environments: Netbeans, Eclipse
o SOA, Web services, Portlets architectures.
o UML Specifications
o Software versions control: Subversion
- Strong analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail.
- Ability to investigate and analyze with minimum supervision tasks and activities and to find solutions that will make them more efficient by using various IT resources.
- Ability to work and communicate well with others, including a good level of understanding of specific user requirements and needs.
- Good interpersonal skills and a strong desire to support the delivery of improved, products, tools and services to team members and collaborators.
- Excellent bilingual skills (English/Spanish).
- Ability to work well as part of multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.
