The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-HABITAT, is the agency for human
settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. This post is located in UN-HABITAT/Urban Basic Services Branch (UBSB) at the Nairobi duty station. Under the supervision of the Section Chief and the general guidance of the Coordinator of the UBSB, the incumbent will perform the following: |

Responsibilities
|
|||||||
|
|||||||
1.
Analysis and Documentation: Document and evaluate existing global best
practices in Urban Mobility; Identify priority interventions within the
framework of the work of the UBSB, the Habitat Agenda, Country Strategy
Notes, national plans and sectors reviews, including Habitat country
programme documents; Develop strategies, partnerships and programmes for
implementing field projects; Liaise with multilateral/bilateral donors
for resource mobilization, promoting/coordinating joint activities and
securing approval and support by involved partners.
2. Project and Programme Development and Implementation: Provide technical and management support in Human Settlements urban mobility analysis, needs assessments and other activities; Participate in advisory missions to carry out consultations and other activities aimed at development of human settlements urban mobility policies, strategies and programmes; Undertake research in transport financing and economics and advise on the development of innovative financing mechanisms and potential partnerships; Coordinate the approval of project designs by relevant parties; Coordinate and initiate implementation of project activities. 3. Project Management: Provide appropriate technical support to projects; Assist in the strengthening of inter-divisional collaboration; Coordinate monitoring of project progress; Provide inputs to the preparation and submission of status reports. 4 Advisory and knowledge dissemination: Provide advisory service to the stakeholders; Support UBSB and other UN-HABITAT units on urban mobility activities; Assist governments in dialogues of policy makers and technical experts; Provide inputs towards UN-HABITAT’s efforts for developing an integrated approach to activities at the global, regional, national and local levels. 5. Perform other duties as required. |

Education
|

|
|||||||
Advanced
university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in transport
economics, civil engineering, urban/transport geography, transport
planning or related area is required. A first-level university degree
in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be
accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
|
|||||||
|
|||||||
A
minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in urban
transport/mobility projects and programmes at national level and at
least two years of similar experience at the international level is
required. Experience with the UN or other international agency is
desirable.
|

Languages
|
|||||||
|
|||||||
English
and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is
required. Working knowledge of another UN language is desirable.
|

Assessment Method
|

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by competency-based interview.
