PATH’s Advocacy and Public Policy (APP) team works to improve global health by increasing awareness and support of global health priorities by targeted policymakers. PATH advocates for change by working with policymakers, advocates, and other influential individuals and groups. PATH is seeking a Family Health Policy Advocate to support PATH’s emerging policy support initiatives in the areas of maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH), nutrition, and family planning in Zambia. This position will work closely with PATH Zambia and PATH’s Family Health Advocacy Officer in Washington, DC.
In collaboration with program experts from across PATH, the Family Health Policy Advocate is responsible for:
- Working closely with the Zambia Country Director and the Family Health Advocacy Officer in Washington DC to conduct program administration of the Zambia Family Health Policy Project. This includes development of project strategies and work plans, interfacing with a variety of PATH staff and partners, and ensuring program deliverables are on target.
- Maintaining partnerships and networks with key stakeholders working in MNCH (nutrition, and family planning, including policymakers; multi-lateral, parastatal, and private sector institutions; NGOs and civil society organizations; women’s and professional associations; and educational and research organizations).
- Providing logistics management and oversight of relevant coalitions and working groups, including meeting administration and coalition/working group communications.
- Providing research support and writing and producing advocacy documents and presentations, including policy memos and briefs, and other policy and informational documents for both internal and external purposes.
- Overseeing and implementing all aspects of advocacy-related meetings and events.
- Working closely with the Zambia Country Director and the Family Health Advocacy Officer in Washington DC to coordinate and facilitate advocacy training and technical assistance.
- Representing PATH at national, regional and international conferences and events as necessary.
- Contributing to the development, documentation, and dissemination of cross-organization policy advocacy lessons learned.
- Conducting and contributing to project reporting and monitoring.
- Liaising with and providing support to project consultants through a range of tasks, including organizing internal and external meetings, research and documentation support, and presentation and publication development.
- Engaging in cross-departmental advocacy and other unit and departmental meetings and trainings as required.
Desired Skills & Experience
Required Skills:- Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with government personnel, NGO partners, and international organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate (orally and in writing) complex issues in a concise, compelling, and easily understandable manner.
- Expert computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Willingness to travel as necessary.
- Fluency in English.
Required Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Honors degree required; Master’s or other advanced degree in public health/policy or related field preferred.
- Five to seven years of professional experience coordinating and managing advocacy projects, policy campaigns, public health programs, behavior change communication projects or other health policy projects; Zambia experience desirable.
- Demonstrated success in planning and conducting advocacy activities to influence family health-related policies globally and/or in Zambia.
- Working knowledge of the political, social, economic, and cultural context of Zambia.
