Stiftung 2 Grad
Berlin, Germany
Introduction
In past years, legislative expertise in environmental, energy and climate politics has shifted to the level of the European Union. As a result, Germany´s political flexibility is being increasingly determined by the European Parliament. For an NGO to exercise influence, it needs to be present in debates in Berlin and Brussels so that it can affect and work alongside the political legislative process and goals as early as possible. Such a task requires intensive in-situ monitoring and proactive negotiation with those involved in the policy-making process.
In the context of Germany´s nationally enacted Energy Transition, a monitoring and negotiating role in environmental and energy politics is all the more important as Germany will play a leading part in determining the future pathway of the EU to a low carbon economy. To make use of this position and to stimulate innovative energy production across Europe, it is valuable to publicise the progressive examples made by German companies on a European level through the work of the 2° Foundation. As a non-profit foundation working towards climate protection and a sustainable climate economy, the 2° Foundation´s focus lies largely on the law- and policy-making of the European Union.
Job profile
For a successful representation of the foundation´s interests in Berlin and at the European Parliament, the 2° Foundation is now seeking to employ a full-time policy officer for European energy and environmental politics.
In addition to the regular monitoring of the policy-making process at a national and European level, the responsibilities of the position include fostering and maintaining relationships with the relevant actors and officials involved in the process. To promote climate change dialogue between politics and business, it is necessary to develop and hold discussion in a variety of formats, which aligns with the founding principles of the 2° Foundation. An understanding and knowledge of the political processes are of great importance as in the future, the 2° Foundation would like to comment extensively on the decision-making process in Brussels and Berlin and accompany it by publishing anticipatory position statements. Additionally, the 2° Foundation is interested in an extensive sharing of information amongst those with relevant knowledge of the various aspects of climate protection. Included within the job profile is the creation and development of this information exchange.
The position tenure is a period of at least twelve months with the expectation that the contract will be extended thereafter.
