OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME : To contribute to the promotion, prevention and Control of Eye and Ear health and conditions of public health importance in an integrated Chronic Non Communicable Diseases (CNCDs) prevention and control approach. The integration of CNCDs of Public Health importance, with special focus on Cardiovascular Diseases, Cancer, Diabetes, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases, Genetic Disorders (especially sickle cell disease and other hemoglobin disorders), mental disorders, violence, injuries and disability. To apply research to the Epidemiology, the Promotion, Prevention and Control of Chronic Non-communicable Diseases (CNCDs). | |
Description of duties: To provide technical expertise for the development of Eye and Ear Health promotion and prevention strategies and control policies integrated into CNCDs policies and strategies in the context of national health policies; To advocate and provide guidance for the development and implementation of national plans for Eye and Ear Health and the eradication of avoidable blindness; To provide expertise for the development of national systems for the collection, analysis and dissemination of data required for planning, management, monitoring and evaluation of Eye and Ear health prevention programs; To provide leadership and guidance to the Global Initiative for the Elimination of Avoidable Blindness, also known as "Vision 2020: The Right to Sight" and create a favourable political environment for its implementation; To promote the integration of eye and ear care activities in national health systems and primary health care settings; To strengthen partnership and collaboration with all stakeholders and resource mobilization for the development of appropriate technologies and national infrastructures for the promotion and prevention of Eye and Ear Health | |
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS | |
Education: Essential: Master's level university degree with a postgraduate qualification in Ophthalmology and training in public health. Desirable: Post graduate training in Public Health. | |
Skills: Ability to design prevention and control of Eye and Ear Health programmes. Demonstrated ability to work in multicultural and multidisciplinary settings and excellent inter-personal skills. | |
Experience: Essential: At least seven years experience in public health at national level, with emphasis on Eye and ear health. Desirable: Some years of Experience at international level. | |
Languages: Excellent knowledge of English or French, with a good working knowledge of the other language. | |
Annual salary: (Net of tax) US$ 67,483 at single rate US$ 72,467 with primary dependants | Post Adjustment: 62.3 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation. |
