Title: | Sr/Principal IO (Mining & Infrastructure Specialist) |
Job Stream: | Infrastructure |
Location: | To Be Determined |
Closing Date: | 02/12/2012 |
Background / General description:
The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector investment arm of the World Bank Group, is one of the leading investors and lenders in emerging markets. The mission of IFC is to promote sustainable private sector investment in developing countries, helping to reduce poverty and improve people's lives. IFC finances private sector investments in the developing world, mobilizes capital in the international financial markets, helps clients improve social and environmental sustainability, and provides technical assistance and advice to governments and businesses. The development of mineral resources across Sub-Saharan Africa is expanding. Increasingly, important mineral deposits to be developed are located at considerable distances from existing transport and population centers, requiring substantial investments in associated infrastructure, whether in electricity, transport or water. This creates challenges for private companies seeking to produce and transport minerals, and opportunities for host governments to leverage such private infrastructure investments for public policy and country development objectives. In turn, this also creates potential for public-private partnerships (PPPs), with cost sharing, risk sharing, and mutual leveraging opportunities for both parties. IFC is seeking to add value to clients and member governments in this increasingly important area, and is recruiting a specialist to develop and lead its activity in this intersection between mining and infrastructure. This is a unique opportunity to display and develop cross-sectoral skills in large, highly visible situations with significant developmental impact. The position will be based in either Dakar, Nairobi or Washington DC.
