Title: | Sr / Principal IO (Agribusiness & Infrastructure) |
Job Stream: | Infrastructure |
Location: | To Be Determined |
Closing Date: | 02/12/2012 |
Background / General description:
The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector investment arm of the World Bank Group, is one of the leading investors and lenders in emerging markets. The mission of IFC is to promote sustainable private sector investment in developing countries, helping to reduce poverty and improve people's lives. IFC finances private sector investments in the developing world, mobilizes capital in the international financial markets, helps clients improve social and environmental sustainability, and provides technical assistance and advice to governments and businesses. The intersection of agricultural and infrastructure development is of increasing importance in Sub-Saharan Africa, whether in irrigation, transport infrastructure, storage or other related areas. This is a result of the continued strong priority attached to Africa by the development community, the continent-wide deficit in infrastructure, and increasing price pressure in food and other agricultural products. Many governments, as well as private investors, are looking at how to integrate both agricultural and infrastructure concerns into investments, in some cases taking the form of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs). IFC is seeking to add value to clients and member governments in this increasingly important area, and is recruiting a specialist to develop and lead its activity in this intersection between agribusiness and infrastructure. This is a unique opportunity to display and develop cross-sectoral skills in large, highly visible situations with significant developmental impact. The position will be based in either Dakar, Nairobi or Washington DC.
