Extension of the appointment is subject to extension of the mandate and/or the availability of the funds. Passing the United Nations Security Officer Test (SOT) administered at the Duty Station is a prerequisite for recruitment consideration for this post. Candidates are responsible for any travel expenses incurred in order to take the examination at the Duty Station and upon initial appointment and separation.
Organizational Setting and Reporting
Under the overall command of the Chief of Safety and Security Service, the Security Inspector is required to report directly to the Deputy Chief and Assistant Chief of Safety and Security Service.
Responsibilities
Manage the security responsibilities under his/her command; issue assignment orders, including redeployments, in accordance with operational requirements
- Instruct and direct subordinate supervisory staff in their duties and responsibilities;
- Recommend and advise on matters concerning the organization and management of the activities of his/her assigned responsibilities;
- Supervise supervisory personnel and all other staff under command;
- Ensure that all posts are properly and effectively supervised;
- Assure the availability of all relevant resources to carry out duties and responsibilities;
- Supervise preparation of all incident and administrative reports, confirming their accuracy and ensuring their prompt dispatch through the chain of command;
- Review security arrangements and staffing resources on a continuous basis and make recommendations to the Security Inspector for improvements in the procedures or more effective deployment of staff;
- Assume command of emergency or heightened security situations until properly relieved. Perform all other related duties as required.
- Ensure that first-line supervisors make frequent patrols to all static and mobile posts to observe work performance and to further brief officers on duty;
- Carry out patrols to monitor performance of officers under command and to inspect uniforms, equipment and general appearance of subordinates;
- Receive reports of complaints, accidents and unusual incidents occurring in the area of command and personally conduct investigations of all serious accidents, crimes and property losses in the area of operations; report all pertinent data for complete investigation by the Special Services Unit and/or Office of the Chief of Service;
- Perform other related tasks as assigned.
