Mikocheni agricultural Research Institute (MARl) under the Ministry of Agriculture Food Security and Cooperatives is coordinating a regional research grant, which is co-funded by Bill &Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and Department for International Development (DFID) entitled 'Disease diagnostics for sustainable cassava productivity in Africa'. The project is implemented in seven countries: Tanzania; Uganda; Kenya; Rwanda; Malawi; Mozambique and Zambia in collaboration with North Carolina State University (NCSU) and Rutgers, New Jersey. USA. MARl will use part of the project funds to recruit on a fixed contract basis a highly qualified and motivated persons to tin the following posts:
ANALYTIC DATA MANAGER (I POST)
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The Analytic Data Manager will work with management and scientists in the project countries to develop strategies for managing the use of project data. He/she will be responsible to assist project staff and postgraduates students learn how to use data collection tools and software such as bioinformatics software, statistical software.
GIS. data, analysis and interpretation. He/she will work with the project coordinating office to determine the best possible method of organizing data generated by the project, providing data analytic support for better decision-making and analyses and organize the data in a SharePoint tool already developed by the project.
Specifically the successful candidate will:
Consult with department heads and top management as well as review strategies and procedures for data management.
Develop and improve tools to evaluate quality of data generated by various activities including field surveys and sequencing platforms and library types.
Develop protocols for data processing.
Train colleagues in how to input and extract data.
Distribute gathered information and data to significant members of the project.
Assemble and analyze data including DNA data produced by various platforms.
Ensure that project data are accurate, complete and up to date.
Establishing and maintaining strong relations with all members of the company.
Generate data and 'information from previous activities.
Provide technical and analytical interpretation of data.
Stay current with new sequencing technologies,
Train biologists to use the available data analysis tools.
Essential skills and Experience
Considerable experience in data processing analysis and management or an equivalent experience.
Strong background in bioinformatics, molecular biology and genomics. -,
Demonstrated experience applying statistics to analyze large biological data sets.
Demonstrated success designing and. implementing systems and software in a scientific or technical environment
Ability to work with scientists to define needs, requirements and priorities.
Demonstrated analytical skills sufficient to troubleshoot complex system and data analysis problems and make recommendations.
Effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. .
Ability to handle multiple tasks in parallel while working on a large number of data
Conscientiousness and efficient in meeting commitments.

Self development professionally and personally and initiative taking
Shows willingness to learn from others; seeks feedback to learn and improve
Qualification and Experience.
The holder of this position must be a Tanzanian citizen, 25-45 years old, with a minimum of a Bachelor degree (preferably an MSc) from a recognized University with specialization in Statistics.
Biology,Bioinformatics, Computer Science. Must have good knowledge of computer and data processing software's such as (word, excel, power point statistics packages and bioinformatics software).
Contract period: 2 Years
