The PATH Director, Infectious Diseases Programs, leads the design and implementation of PATH’s public health programs and organizational investments in infectious diseases. The Director oversees an evolving portfolio of grant funded projects related to HIV, tuberculosis and malaria control and elimination, and will work to develop and build PATH’s public health programs in pneumonia, diarrhea and other vaccine preventable diseases. The Director represents PATH externally, serving as a scientific expert and external representative for global advocacy efforts for infectious diseases, and contributes to the activities of the Malaria Center of Excellence.
INFECTIOUS DISEASE PROGRAMS
Lead all aspects of PATH’s public health infectious disease portfolios. Develops and implements program direction based on consideration of a broad range of internal and external factors, and an understanding of the relationships between various PATH program areas.
- Identify and oversee the development of responses to new funding opportunities.
- Hire and supervise key talent leading specific infectious diseases programs.
- Serve as performance leader and mentor for project directors and senior management staff.
- Provides leadership and support to infectious disease teams.
- Review and provide oversight for project implementation and evaluation; review and approve all program reports and materials developed for public dissemination.
- Drive the implementation of PATH’s HIV strategy, develop and evolve strategy for PATH investments in tuberculosis and malaria, and build PATH strategy for pneumonia, diarrhea and other vaccine preventable diseases.
- Ensure that the Infectious Disease program structures serves program implementation and maximizes ability to meet and exceed donor expectations of quality and delivery.
- Ensure that all trials and studies are in compliance with the highest standards of research ethics and medical science.
PUBLIC HEALTH IMPACT (PHI) TEAM AND PORTFOLIO
Work collaboratively within the PHI program teams that include: Reproductive Health; Maternal, Newborn, Child Health and Nutrition; Non-communicable Diseases; Digital Health Solutions and Health System Strengthening.
- Identify opportunities and develop cross-PHI program responses to funding opportunities.
- Drive business development activities to create a diversified and sustainable portfolio.
- Partner with PHI leaders to build cross-program public health competencies in surveillance, evidence-based interventions, innovation in policy and programs, implementation science and operational research monitoring and evaluation.
- Participate in the development and evolution of the overall Public Health Impact portfolio and strategy.
CROSS PATH AND EXTERNAL REPRESENTATION
Represent the Infectious Disease Program with internal PATH partners and key external audiences.
- Provide overall leadership consistent with PATH’s mission, values, and policies.
- Model clear, open, and collaborative communication approaches in a dynamic environment.
- Collaborate closely with International Development country program leaders to provide scientific accountability and needed expertise for country-based work.
- Work with Product Development Program Leaders to identify opportunities for joint PHI/Product Development collaboration.
- Contribute leadership to the newly formed PATH Malaria Center or Excellence (MCOE).
- Represents PATH externally, serving as a scientific expert and external representative for global advocacy and policy efforts for infectious diseases.
- Oversee the HIV Health Impact Team to inform bid decisions, project design and quality assessments.
- Build Path capacity in infectious diseases through development of cross PATH collaborations and recruitment of new technical expertise, including at country level.

- Fluency in English.
- Available to travel nationally and internationally up to 30 percent.
Required Experience
- Internationally recognized as an expert in infectious diseases as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, participation/representation to international technical policy or advisory groups.
- Doctoral degree in medicine, public health, or other relevant field.
- Advanced degree and/or training in Infectious Diseases with a preference for expertise in HIV, TB, and Malaria.
- Fifteen years of progressively responsible leadership roles in the design and/or delivery of public health programs and research with a preference for experience in developing country/low resource settings.
