1.0. QUALIFICATIONS
i. Bachelor Degree/Advanced Diploma in Marine/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering
or its equivalent from a recognized Institution.
ii. Certificate of Second Engineer Officer Class 2.
iii. Master’s Degree in a related field is an added advantage.
iv. At least ten (10) years of relevant working experience in a vessel with an
acceptable engine capacity.
v. Must be computer literate.
2.0. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
i. To be in charge of the engine room department for a vessel of less than 3000kW.
ii. To coordinate efficient operation and maintenance of all propulsion and electrical
systems of the vessel.
iii. To coordinate the activities of all engine room personnel.
iv. To ensure that the vessel’s mechanical and electrical machines are properly
maintained and serviced.
v. To direct junior staff on the operation and maintenance of the mechanical and
electrical equipment on board.
vi. To monitor inspections of mechanical and electrical systems.
vii. To manage power, fueling and distribution systems.
viii. To record and monitor fuel consumption.
ix. To create and monitor post watch assignments.
x. To maintain discipline of engine room crew.
xi. To monitor performance of engine room personnel on watch.
xii. To maintain planned maintenance program.
xiii. To keep up to date with developments in the marine engineering field.
xiv. To perform any other duties as may be assigned by the superior.
