Department staff and interns Amani Children?s Home is seeking a talented, high-performing Director of Development to join our dynamic and innovative team. The Director of Development leads all fundraising efforts for this established and growing nonprofit, which celebrates its 15th anniversary next year. Amani Children?s Home is committed to reducing the number of children living on the streets in Tanzania by providing a nurturing place for homeless children to heal, grow, and learn. In addition to providing long-term care, Amani aims to reunite children with their relatives when possible and to equip their families with the tools they need to be self-sustainable. Amani is a community-based nonprofit and supports hundreds of children in our center and in families around Tanzania. We are a national leader in promoting children?s rights and have been used by the government of Tanzania as a learning site for its social workers. Five registered ?Friends of Amani? charities in North America, Europe, and Australia raise funds exclusively to support Amani?s pioneering work. The Director of Development will have strategic and operational responsibility for Amani?s Development, Communications, and Volunteer programs. She/he will lead and implement a comprehensive, multi-year fundraising strategy to increase revenue in line with an ambitious strategic plan. This is a great opportunity for a resourceful, results-driven team player who is passionate about Amani?s work with street children. In addition to significant experience working with major donors, the successful candidate will also have a proven track record of grant writing, corporate partnerships, capital campaigns and annual appeals. The Development Director will supervise a department of 1.8 FTEs, plus one or two long-term fundraising volunteers, as well as consultants and interns. Responsibilities: ?Develop and lead a multi-year, sustainable organizational fundraising strategy to grow revenue, including identification of growth areas and metrics for determining success and return on investment. ?Cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors, foundations, corporate sponsors, and other funding vehicles; motivate and support the ED and Friends of Amani Boards to do the same. ?Manage grant proposal development, tracking, and reporting. ?Strengthen and lead the individual giving program, including development of individualized cultivation plans for major donors. ?Plan and implement annual fund solicitations. ?Supervise, coach, and support development staff, interns and volunteers. ?Analyze existing fundraising programs, establishing and implementing a plan to improve the effectiveness of each, ensuring results are tracked with an eye towards meeting goals. ?Serve as a liaison for third-party fundraisers and Friends of Amani organizations worldwide, encouraging their efforts, managing expectations, and ensuring they have the resources needed to be successful. ?Create, update, and/or distribute appealing e-newsletters, Annual Reports, website content, and other marketing materials, in partnership with volunteer graphic designers, website developers, and the Amani ED. ?Oversee Amani?s Volunteer Program, ensuring the recruitment of skilled volunteers who meet the organization?s and program goals. ?Collaborate with the IT department, the Amani ED and outside consultants as necessary to ensure Amani?s new Salesforce Database System evolves into a dependable comprehensive performance management tool for effectively tracking all donor and grant relations, prospecting and gift processing, and child case management. Qualifications: ?Minimum of five years of development experience with management experience. ?Specific expertise in grassroots fundraising and a proven track record of prospecting, cultivating, and managing donor relationships. ?Demonstrated success in securing gifts from foundations and corporations. ?Results-driven approach to fundraising; ability to set concrete goals and achieve them. ?Strong written and verbal communication skills; passionate communicator with excellent public speaking skills. ?Ability to motivate, inspire, and support others. ?Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, and mission-driven environment. ?A passion for vulnerable children and youth and commitment to Amani?s mission and values. ?Endless enthusiasm for pursuing a high standard of excellence. ?A joyful attitude towards work and life, as well as the grace and flexibility to navigate the challenges of living in the Global South. ?Demonstrated cross-cultural competency, with experience working or living in the Global South being a plus. ?Commitment of at least two years. ?Bachelor?s degree required; MBA or MPA a plus. ?Familiarity with Salesforce is a plus. The last two Development Directors enjoyed working at Amani and living in Moshi so much that they both chose to extend their contracts after the two-year minimum.
